“Below Par & Starless Hotel”
Reviewed July 12, 2013

I booked a quadruple room as we had small kids, despite that I specifically asked for a non-smoking room we were shown in to a fully 'smoked room'. On our complaint we were moved to a 14th floor room where the room was hot and after waiting for more than an hour the room temperature did not come down to a comfortable level. Again I complained and again we were moved to a room on 10th floor. Although we met with a badly leaking bathroom, broken nightstand and faulty TV connection, we were so tired by running between rooms we settled for it. The furniture is too old & dirty, rooms smell bad and drapes seem from ancient time. The hotel boasts of being a 4 star hotel on website but in reality it has no STAR at all. The hotel charged us SR 750/= per night whereas the quadruple room was not more than SR 400/= worth.

There are a few positives, however, including its proximity to the Masjid, breakfast facility, free wi-fi and ever ready staff to help, especially Mr. Sameer and Mr. Summon at the front desk. But the staff have their limits for they can be hospitable &helpful but they can't renovate rooms or change old furniture. This is hotel management's responsibility. I would definitely not go there again.

Room Tip: Try choosing rooms at lower levels as they are better kept.

Staff was very friendly. I would like to specially thank Mr. Sameer and Mr. Fouad for helping me out in getting the parking. - Its just 2 minutes walking distance from Haram. - I asked for the extra bed and they upgraded me to Junior Suit. - I stayed in Intercontinental last time and their room service was pathetic, whereas i got a very quick response for all request during my stay at Sofara.

Considering Medina prices and other hotel within same price range, i find this hotel better than other..strongly recommend.

Room Tip: Book Parking in advance.

The hotel is two streets behind the Masjid but within walking distance. The reservation as well as reception staff are very friendly. I had booked a double room but was upgraded to a one-bedroom suite which was large even compared to some 5-star hotels in the vicinity. The rooms as well as the toilets were clean. However, they need to change the covers on the sofa bed and the sofa set as they are soiled and stained. The double bed in the suite had wooden columns around it with satin panels on all four sides giving it a touch of luxury. Would be excellent choice for couples. The breakfast buffet had a lot of variety and even the egg (fried or omelette style) was done in your presence.

Room Tip: Chose a double room with the number 13 or a one-bedroom suite with the number 16 on any of the upper...

Wi-Fi does not work at Rooms. One needs to go down to lobby for Wi-Fi connection. Difficult to find the Hotel entrance which is at the back. Breakfast is alright but no coffee on the menu. Good thing is the location, very close to the Haram. Friendly people at the reception.

We travelled to Madinah in March 2013 and found this hotel very average. A two to three star hotel. The highlight is that it is relatively close to the Haram. Check in was relatively easy and the staff were helpful, although communication can be difficult at times. The upkeep of the rooms was poor, with no kettle in the room at first, and then none of the plugs were working which meant I had to boil water in the passage. I often showered with very tepid to cold water and was told to leave the tap running for 5 minutes before showering, which didnt' really help. The airconditioner was impossible to reset, so we often froze at night. Room service had almost nothing on the menu! Breakfast looks good if you love eating lunch at breakfast time. There is little in the way of fibrous bread, yoghurts, etc. I definitely would not choose this hotel again. It has alot of potential but in need of serious revamp.

The main positive is the proximity to the masjid. It's a short walk away. The staff were quite friendly too.

The rooms were nothing special. I expected it to be a bit cleaner, especially at the rates they charge. Compared to other hotels in the area the rates are OK.

They claim their rooms have wifi but this is NOT the case. You can get a signal in the lobby but nothing at all in the rooms. We were on the 13th floor so you may find a stronger signal on the lower floors.

The disappointing aspect of staying here is the horrible breakfast spread. There was nothing at all that tasted fresh. I've stayed at at least 7 or 8 different hotels in this area and Sofaraa al huda had, by far, the worst breakfast of them all.

Given that the standard of the hotel rooms are pretty much the same in this area, I would NOT stay here again. I might as well pay the same rate and get a half decent breakfast included.
