At $80. USD per night this came up as one of the cheaper hotels in the Gulf region, not an area known for bargain stays. As I could only visit within KSA whilst awaiting the coveted iqama, Dammam it was. The hotel is well located with shops and restos nearby and the corniche a 15 min. walk away, adjacent to its classy neighbour, the Sheraton. In fact you have to enter through the Sheraton gate and parking lot to arrive at the understated and underwhelming Hotel Dammam (so understated there is not even a sign board over the front entrance.)
The hotel is laid out as a giant square, four long corridors all on one floor, with the pool in the central open courtyard. The staff boast theirs is larger than the Sheraton pool, a claim I cannot verify. The deck is neat and the wooden furniture is functional if on the bland side.
The room was pokey even for a single, and although the bed was double size, it was pushed against one wall. The old style box tv was outdated for a hotel of this rating - 3 star - and the best channel of their featured satellite carrier, a movie channel without adverts, had an annoying habit of cutting out very frequently for a few seconds at a time. I could not access the pay tv channels from the dedicated button on the remote. Wifi is available (10 SAR /$2.67 per hour or 50 SAR per day). I did not use it, but overheard another guest complain to the management that it wasn't very serviceable. The ac in the room works on one setting only, cold.
The worst feature of the room, besides being a little cramped, was the stale odour of smoke. I had asked for a non-smoker's room and I suppose this being the KSA, such a request could not be met. I think a new blanket on the bed could have probably improved the situation, but did not ask for one. The best feature of this room was a remodeled bath. (But why stop there?) On the plus side, your room comes with a generous plate of fresh fruit, which was ample for my 3 day stay. I would not recommend the breakfast - although I arrived 15 minutes before the end of breakfast, which is 10:30 am, the buffet had been cleared and the meal I ordered came in stages, with the eggs arriving much later than the toast (2 slices, white), and very rubbery at that. The waiter clearly had more important things to do than wait on me (granted I was the only guest in the dining room at the time). Front desk staff were friendly and helpful as far as recommending a place to eat, providing a local city map, etc.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing inside the courtyard as the outward facing rooms look onto a steel-clad building about 3 meters away. Check that the bathroom has been updated/remodeled.

Very lousy hotel and I would say not worth for the price at all. I don't understand how it has a 3 Star rating! We didn't have any choice but to stay for 3 nights because it was peak time during Eid and all hotels were full. Very old property with dirty linen and not advisable by anyone to stay in here.
