I was working a nine week contract in the UK to evaluate a new desalination plant to be installed in Al Jubail. I had to visit site to meet with the prospective bidders to do a technical evaluation of their bids.
There was a team of four that flew to Saudi Arabia. I was familiar with the country having worked there for a year in Al Khobar so was not at all fazed by the lengthy immigration procedure. We arrived late at the hotel around midnight and when I got to my room I ordered a Pizza from room service. I foolishly ordered a seafood pizza, being very tired I was not really thinking.
Anyway I ate the pizza delivered to my room and got horribly ill during the night.
the next day I was so poorly I had to be taken to hospital to have my stomach pumped out and put on a drip and antibiotics. I manged to attend the meetings the next four days but felt fairly unwell the whole visit.
I should probably have complained to the management but just couldn't be bothered as I was so unwell.
DON'T EAT SEAFOOD PIZZA IN ARABIA!!!!!!!!

Dear Mr. JonathanSuch2013,

We would really like to thank you for taking time to write this and very sorry to hear about your illness during your stay.

We would like to assure you that food and beverages of the hotel are under very strict daily inspection by the hotel and another 2 parties for food safety inspection.

We are also glad to share with you that based on the annual performance of the hotel we were certified with HACCP certificate which guarantees that the hotel is maintaining very high standards for food safety.

We are very sorry again for what happened and might assume that there are other factors could cause this illness to you hoping that the hospital were able to identify possible causes and that you have been treated well during your visit to the country.

We also would loved to hear about your issue during your stay as we are keeping food items served on a daily basis in our refrigerator for maximum 5 days period for any sudden request for food inspection and we would have loved to give you same sample of seafood pizza for inspection to make sure you get to know the reason.

We will be more than happy to take you for a tour in our heart of the house area to show you what kind of procedures are being implemented and how are we measuring food safety every moment to make sure we stay above and continue to be certified as safe hotel for food and beverage.

One more time we are pleased to know that you have recovered and we will be happy to welcome you back at our hotel.

We will be glad to answer any further questions you may have and wish you a wonderful and great new year in advance.

Sincerely,

During Ramadan you can't beat the outside tent at hotel for its excellent Iftar buffet, but book early because when we went it was completely packed. As usual, within an hour, a huge mountain of the most delicious Iftar fair has been consumed and the tent quickly empties. This is not about socialising; this is about eating. Lots and fast.

stayed out here for a couple of weeks. The service is top notch. The food is really good (albeit a bit pricey, but it is very good and there are a number of different options to choose from). I would give it a fifth star if there were some things in the immediate vicinity to walk to for a change of pace, and once they renovate the rooms (mine wasn't bad, just know the renovated rooms are pretty nice). Felt very secure here, the security team is very professional and the folks in the lobby are extremely helpful. Great great service in every interaction which is not common these days - so this hotel is doing something right.

I stayed here for a week during Ramadan. Jubail is an industrial area, so I wasn't expecting much upon arrival, but was pleasantly surprised. The hotel area was securely fenced in, the rooms were more than acceptable, and the nighttime dining in the pavilion outside at the breaking of the fast during Ramadan was quite the experience! Endless food choices and very happy faces made for a memorable first experience in Saudi Arabia.

Stayed here on business for a week. I was given a room on the 4th floor that was recently renovated. The room was very nice with a great shower, modern flat screen HDTV, daily turn-down, strong wireless reception and a heavenly bed. The AC worked flawlessly. I have nothing but good things to say about the room.

The hotel staff was fabulous and made every attempt to insure my comfort. The buffet was great every night and every morning. The wait staff was attentive without being intrusive. The kitchen was on their game every day. The quality of the food was excellent with different theme nights. I highly recommend the dining experience.

As noted by other reviewers, the hotel is undergoing a renovation but as I left the hotel each morning and didn't return until late, I was unaware of any construction activities other than to notice they have these areas temporarily walled off.

There is a private beach for hotel guests a short walk from the hotel. I spent a couple of hours there one afternoon. They have lounge chairs, umbrellas, towel service and a snack bar. The beach is clean with a small lagoon in which is anchored a platform and a trampoline for the kids. It's a nice way to while away a few hours and catch some rays.

The Intercon Jubail is in the process of being upgraded. It needs it. The rooms whilst nice enough are in need of updating. I cannot fault the level of service, but the facilities should be far better given the level of business.

Food however is excellent. Buffet's good & varied.

Chef Jacques updated the menu down in the Ranch, same great steaks, and excellent service from Jamshed and Zeeshan. But he added some new things to the menu. Try the burgers they are pretty good. I'm from Texas and been staying at the Intercon on and off for over year, this as close as I can get to real texmex food.
