Marins Park Hotel
Ranked #176 of 219 Hotels in Sochi
Reviewed September 24, 2011

The Marins is not a good hotel for a business traveler. It's probably okay if you are a tourist looking to looking to see Sochi, and want to be a stones throw from the ocean. I was here to prepare for a meeting and needed a comfortable friendly well appointed hotel. The room was too warm; it took hours to cool down. The bed was uncomfortable; I woke up with a back pain. The drapes are close to sheer so let all the light in.There were no food options when I arrived early evening on a Saturday; the restaurant had a party in it and was closed to the public; lounge served no food; room service did not answer. Service was unfriendly generally; which might be normal Russian standards but not typical of business hotels worldwide. The front desk staff were an exception and spoke English. Internet connection worked although it has no security. I need to find a site like TripAdvisor designed for business travelers which would help avoid poor choices like this in future.

This hotel is within a short walk of pretty much everything. The Black Sea is minutes away - and the boardwalk has restuarants, cafes, and swimming spots. The night scene is beautiful people everywhere - and the hours go late. I got up to catch a plane at four and the lobby was full of people. My room was amazingly quiet. The twin beds were lame, but otherwise it was just fine. I was really impressed. This town is rapidly moving to world class at it prepares for the Winter Olympics in 2014.

This is a nice hotel & convenient location to the waterfront boardwalk. They do not have their own beach but there are plenty of public areas to enjoy the Black Sea just steps away. English speaking front desk staff. Rooms were nice & comfortable. Be sure to upgrade to the air conditioned rms. Not worth the savings for non A/C rms. Our room included a nice breakfast each morning. Warning, there is an exotic club just around the corner, but we never noticed any issues. Cab ride from the train station should only cost about 300 Rubles. Housekeeping staff was not too friendly or helpful especially if you do not speak Russian. Room service was timely & friendly.

Room Tip: Definitely get room with A/C

This modern new hotel is situated in the center of Sochi, near the Central beach. New, well-decorated rooms. Bathroom equipment is new. Beautiful windows view (sea – from my room on the sixth floor). Service is well. I was fully pleased with meals (three meals a day). Marins park hotel has a very good location, but it has no own beach or park territory. To my mind, Marins park hotel is one of the best hotels of Sochi.

Most of Sochi hotels are dated, old-fashioned, Soviet-style and with mediocre service. Marines Park Hotel is rather new and more close to the European standards. However if you consider it apart of the rest awful Sochi hotels it's an average, poor managed hotel which I could rate for 3 stars at best. Conference halls are also beyond high standards.

Marins Park is supposedly a 4 star hotel, its only redeeming feature is that it is in a good location a short walk to the (pebbled) beach and is clean. Four star it is not!! We booked it because it had an outdoor pool but the pool was closed despite being 30 degrees. There was supposed to be an al fresco restaurant but there was only one main restaurant - inside the hotel. The indoor pool is a splash pool and the only treatment available in the spa was a massage. The gym was spartan. They say they have a private beach but they just give you a token for a sun lounger on the public beach. Our room overlooked a building site and was extremely pokey. The curtains didn't close properly so you were woken up early and the mini bar was an empty cabinet. We paid 6000 ruble per night for a late booking, the same as we had paid the previous week for the Le Meridien Moscow Country Club (different class altogether). I wouldn't book this hotel again even if it was the only hotel in Sochi with rooms available.

Visited Sochi for the first time this summer and wasn't sure what to expect in terms of hotel quality -- my sense was that if you weren't staying at a five-star hotel where the Russian oligarchs stay, that things could be kinda hit-or-miss. I can say that Marines Park Hotel far exceeded my expectations. While not cheap (close to $200/night for a fairly standard room), it's certainly affordable by Russian standards, especially during the peak summer travel period. The hotel is close to the center of everything in Sochi (Western-style shopping, the local McDonald's, a British pub, a big statue of Lenin -- you know, everything an expat expects in a Russian vacation destination), and hotel guests have access to a private (relatively tiny) beach area on the Black Sea that's connected to the main Sochi boardwalk. If you pick up a beach pass in the morning, you get free lounge chairs on the beach. Anyway, a big hat tip to the hotel staff, especially Lisa Gavrilova, who was so wonderfully charming and helpful. The lobby is magnificent - and includes a live jaguar and live parrots. (Not a typo -- a live jaguar behind a thick glass wall!). The room itself wasn't that special -- a tiny TV that barely worked, pretty standard-issue furniture, and there wasn't even an alarm clock in the room. (I just used the alarm function on my iPhone and called down for a wake-up call) But you tend to expect those kinds of things in Russia. There were several on-site restaurants, a business center, a health club, some type of beauty clinic, a salon selling Bogner skiwear in the middle of summer, and several on-site cafes. Oh, and there are always Mercedes taxi cabs idling outside the hotel, so you can get to and from Adler airport in style (about 30-40 minutes away). The main restaurant served a great breakfast buffet that was very heavy on Russian offerings like morning sausages and blini (if you're into that) in a kinda luxe-glam ballroom. The hallway leading to the ballroom-buffet room featured lots o' photos of all the Russian stars who have visited, including big-time names like Alla Pugacheva and Maksim Galkin. If you speak a fair amount of Russian and/or have traveled throughout Russia, you'll enjoy this hotel and appreciate all the little touches that are recognizably Russian (did I mention that there's a "gentleman's club" on premises that opens up at 11:00pm as well as a historic Pushkin library that's being reconstructed?) If you can't appreciate these enigmatic touches, it might be safer to stick with the Radisson Lazurnaya (beastly expensive, but Radisson is the only real Western brand hotel in Sochi for the next year or so, until the hotel majors like Starwood start building for the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics). I wish I had more time in Sochi to explore the city and its exotic environs. Again, the Marines Park Hotel far exceeded my expectations.
