I clambered down the stairs and hurried through the narrow passageways at intersections in Rostov, only to stop on a dime when seeing the delightfully bright and inviting underground art. Typically painted tiles showing scenes of Russian life, these unexpected visual treats helped make the visit to Rostov memorable.

Masterpieces can be seen the walls in the underground crossings in Rostov. The items are different and dedicated to some local traditions, historical events and connected with the life of local people. The colors are fresh. Try to find time and watch the mosaic in Sadovaya street.

These mosaics are the only soviet design left in city. 40 years millions of Russian children admired passing that mosaics. You can see the best soviet real art in it. The scenes of soviet happiness depicted on them . You will feel the atmosphere of joy and bright prospect of life. The weekdays of Soviet people are depicted but holiday mood brings to viewers. If you want to see the life by Soviet child’s eyes you should to see that mosaics.

The classic tile mosaics of the workers, daily life and scenes from the Great Patriotic War can be found in a number of underpasses in the centre of Rostov-on-Don.

The unusual (maybe the uniqe) sample of soviet "rock-painting". There was the new faculty of builders college instituted to prepare the specialists to make this mosaic. Each underground has the different subject. The rostov`s community makes large efforts to prewent the destruction of this art.
Unfortunately the large part of it covered by ugly pavilions placed near the walls.

If you are there relax and enjoy the atmosphere is impeccable. Just spend a few miners there and enjoy atmosphere of a Noble Prise winner of the Don river. Late Wrighter Sholokhov is illustrated well by the mosaic s at the place. Must see in my humble opinion.

You'll probably have to cross Bolshaya Sadovaya at some point during your trip. Make it worth your time by going down into the many underpasses along this busy street.

I think, it's unique art for Russia and looks pretty good, especially one mosaic where children in class did a sum. If you want to know more and can read Russian, you can read this http://www.viskra.ru/2013/06/blog-post_28.html. If you can't read - just see photos of this mosaic (scroll the page down, they are there)
