Stayed in one of the smoking rooms (33x) in the hotel since it was overbooked. Even if you don't smoke you are lucky to taste the smoke from other guests: the ventilation is smart enough to boost the smoke via slot under the door - see photo (good as well for noise conduction from outside) and from the barhroom. Some practicalities from legacy soviet style hotels experience: ask for additional towel, wet it and close the slot - it helps for a while. And don't forget to wet it time to time overnight. Have a good night!

I booked in a very quiet time, beginning of January which easily allowed for a very early check in which also shows this hotel is customer orriented. I had booked one of the huge superior rooms where floor to ceiling windows offer you a full view of the river. The roomdesign was fresh and entertaining. The bathroom is spacious and comfortable. Because of the low occupation the breakfastorder was taken personally and delivered to the room. Usually this hotel will be busy , there are two connected wings with lots of rooms, but again it shows they find a nice balance between customerservice and operation. It was good to see that the hotel used this very quit period to do some deep cleaning, maintenance during the day. The hotel is very central and it is a perfect place to start any exploration of the city on foot. Nearby is an entertainment center but no noise is heard from it. Retaurants, bars, shops, including a larger supermarket all within 5 to 10 minutes walk. The hotel is an excellent choice for a stay in Omsk.

I just spent 1 night in this hotel be on the business trip. The location is great 10 min drive from Airport, in the city center, nice restaurant and pub "Kolchak" steps away, mavarlous view on the river Om. Young coples walking around, such a romantic place! I get a standart room but it was nice. I did not eat breakfast as had to be picked up to airport early in the morning. One tip - there is a boat pier in front of the hotel take a short cruise over Irtish river - 6 USD only for 1 hour tour, grab a beer or two in onboard cafe and enjoy! Girls on reception are really friendly and helpfull, gave me free local map. I like this hotel and probably will stay there again.

We stayed just for one night, nevertheless I don't think that my opinion would get changed much if we stayed more time.

Check-in took a little longer that we could expect to, but it probably would be faster if it wasn't for a taxi driver arguing about a client that didn't show up or something.

We were in the cheapest rooms, but they clearly were newly renovated and I didn't notice any 1980s throwback style as someone here said. But may be it was renovated again since 2009. You either get room with a river view or view on a square. We've got with a square. Twin room had enough of free space, little desk with a mini-bar, and two chairs with a coffee table, flat screen TV with couple of dozens of channels. Bathroom with a shower (no bath). Looked clean, but hot water wasn't that hot.

At the morning hours there was a free breakfast available at the restaurant downstairs. Meal was good and for most of people who likes European cuisine, there should be enough to choose from. Restaurant has panoramic windows which open pleasant view to the river. I think it would be nice to have dinner there, but we couldn't.

We had to take a late leave and the hotel made it free for us, though it's not that much money it was very pleasant of them.

One flaw I should point out. A pillow was quite small. For better night sleep I would prefer a bigger one, but may be it's just my own idiosyncrasy, because my roommate said he was ok with that.

This hotel made a very good impression on me and I'd definitely recommend it to a friend.

We arrived at the Mayak's very businessy reception rather dirty and smelly off the Trans-Siberian train, and although I can't say the welcome was warm it was perfectly friendly and professional given the fact that we were clearly bringing the tone of the place right down! They registered our visas straightaway while we cleaned up (took them less than an hour, so didn't hold us up at all, and no extra charge).

We were in the cheapest rooms (one double, one single) which were recently renovated in a slightly 1980s throwback style (and slightly odd room design - e.g. no lightswitch near the bed), but with a nice view over the river/square, foundation stone, and somewhat monolithic Hotel Turist across the road. The bathroom looked reconditioned rather than new, but clean and functional.

Not the most fantastic value for money compared with other places we stayed, but compared with other rooms we had been offered in Omsk (which were either shabby, expensive, or way out of town) the value was fair (The Mayak's location is very central with good access to all the main sights).

The hotel appears to be doing a lot of building work to an internal courtyard, but there was no disruption in the rooms (which all seem to be the other side of a corridor from the work being done - looking over either the square or the river).

The breakfast is included and is tasty and fairly diverse: should be something for everyone within typical Russian/Scandinavian/German type options (included e.g. vegetable fritters, cured salmon, boiled egg, fish roe, various breads/pastries, meats, salad, etc.).

The hotel also has a business centre: access costs around £3 for 3 hours including a couple of computers with internet access and a printer.

There was always somebody on the front desk with at least a smattering of English (certainly better than our Russian) and they were very willing to try to help even through a mild language barrier which was much appreciated.
