We stayed one night in the hotel. Rooms were very small. in double rooms nearly no chance to walk along the bed. (see pictures on official website) They are even smaller than they look there.
The rooms were very warm (at least 25-26 degree). The air conditioning could not be started, cause no remote control was available. Open window was not possible, cause beside the really great view on the baikal there was a parking place with kiosk and meetingpoint before the hotel and so it was very loud until late in the night.
Room accommodation seemed to be from the 60ths or 70ths and never changed since them.
The mattress was defect. The springs were so strong, that they nearly throw you out of the bed, when you turned your position.
The bath was on the first vie clean. On the second not. Typicall hints of an old bathroom. Worst, the bath tub had a leak and water run out on the floor.
In the rooms your should not look to the lamps. At least 1cm of flys were lain inside.
Somewhere inside the hotel was a disco or party (in cellar region) and the music was so loud, that you have hard it in the 8th floor in the rooms.
It was a terrible night.

The staff was between bored and ok. Wishes were accepted with a view: "Why do you disturb me".

The internet is very expensive and the wquality, even on the desktop PCs in the reception was not good.

The price was very high and int no relation to the benefit.

Breakfast was ok, but often things were out. For example every second cup of coffe you had to order. Not automatic refill of things.

Music in restaurant and breakfastroom so loud, that you nearly had to shout to your neigbourgh. Restaurant staff was not interested in guests.

From outside, the hotel is not so nice like on the pictures. Lamps are defect, walls have cracks,...

For a hotel which allegedly opened in 2006 the situation and condition is very bad. We had other hotels in Russia (e.g. in Irkutsk, the next sity) with less "stars" but 300% more benefit.

So it was a one-time booking there. First time and absolutely last time.
No recommendation

We have stayed for one night in June 2011. Really bad hotel for the price they take. The first thing was that when we came they gave us a room in a completely different separate building than that on the picture. Room was small, dusty, stinking and with flies. Wireless worked only if you opened the window and stretched out your computer..

View was OK, but really not fantastic as it may seem from the photos of the hotel.
Breakfast was really bad, probably from the day before yesterday! You had to ask for every cup, spoon etc, as they could not be found on the table. Bartenders didn't even know in which of the pots coffee was. Instead of cleaning things of the tables, they were taking food from buffet and eating themselves in the back room!!! This was really the top of it all.. And it wasn't late when we came for breakfast (we came at 8, breakfast was from 7 till 10).

I suspect that whoever wrote good reviews on Mayak, are somehow connected to this hotel's management.

Location was great.

Stayed here for 2 nights in Feb. Hotel looks a little weird and out of place from the outside (a bit like Brighton promenade!). However, had a fantastic room on the top floor overlooking the amazing frozen Lake Baikal :) Reception staff were friendly and helpful. Room was clean, warm and comfy. Hotel right in the heart of tiny Listvyanka, and thankfully when we went, there wasnt much to do, so nice realxing time! Slight down side, breakfast was a bit strange and unorganised. All in all tho, a great hotel and would recommend to family and friends.

Stayed her for one night during out trip to Baikal. Hotel is only a few years old and rather nice looking. Front desk staff were very nice and service oriented. Rooms are extremely small and not very comfortable. They have Aircon, TV and a small bathroom. If you sre staying for more than one night I would recomend upgrading to a bigger room. Breakfast was really almost a joke and the staff apeared to have 0 Control as to who was supposed to do what. They would put out one thing at a time, so when there was cheese you had to grab what you could. When the bread came you had to do the same there. I mean How difficult is it to run a breakfast buffet.

Hotel has Wifi and conection speed is good. 250 Rub for 2 hours

Not much to do in Listvyanka, exept beer tents and souvenir shopping. We took a boat trip with MS Babuskin and this was nice. Unless you plan to do outdoor activities etc 1 night is more than sufficient

Taxi from irkutsk was 2000 rubles, and we took a bus on the return trip that runs right outside the hotel for 80 Ruble pr person

We booked through www. baikalvisa.com and paid 3400 Rub per night

60 Rooms, Internet, opened June 2006, front rooms have great views over Lake Baikal, most rooms quite small, friendly English speaking front desk staff, satisfactory breakfast in a nicely decorated dining room, internet available via ethernet connection in each room, a WiFi system was under construction. Front door has the name MARK with the R printed backwards but apparently this is converts to Mayak in English
