Beryozka Inn is a great place to stay inside the Kvartal 130. Our room was very spacious, with good heating (it was a bit cold) and comfortable beds. The recepcionist was a very friendly woman helping us with all our needs. The location is just great, inside a kitchy street packed with great bars and restaurants (and a pastry shop!!!).

Room tip: The upper stoy room is the least noisy.

Located in a pretty, reconstructed log house, Beryozka is a welcome change from anonymous chain hotels. The staff is mostly friendly and Russian-speaking, but they have 48 hour shifts and sleep at the reception at night. At night the front door is locked, so you may find yourself banging at the door for quite a while, after climbing the sometimes icy outside stairs, before the receptionist wakes up to let you in. If your room is upstairs, you are up for another climb up some very narrow and steep stairs. The rooms however are top-notch (although lacking fridge and shower curtain), and almost justify the high rates. The breakfast however does not. While lovingly prepared, the ingredients are truly bottom-shelf. Bland slices of toast (not roasted) without butter are served with the cheapest sausage and a "dairy product" that doesn't meet the quality standards to be called yoghurt. The location in the tourist- and nightlife district can be both an advantage and a disadvantage, but I wouldn't recommend this hotel for families on weekends.
