I almost give this a miss and i must thank our local guide for insisting that we should go in. As we were visiting the Bulgar/Volga the following day it was important for me & group to have a better understanding of the history of the origin of the people of Tartarstan.
Never regret and i was very impressed with the thousands of artifacts on display and in particular in the jewellery room of the ancient Bulgarians. Real exquisite and fine work and i have seen some of these being copied in the present day jewelry industry. The Bulgarians were great in metal works too and you can see great collections of ancient coins and weapons.
Visiting this museum and later if you travel to Bulgar which is located 3 hours away from Kazan, you will have a comprehensive history of the Bulgarians and the Tartars. You will discover also the history of Islam in Russia and they have many artifacts to support it.
If you are in Kazan, this is one place you should not miss. Its very close to the Kazan Kremlin and
entrance fees was 100 doubles which is about 3 USD. Worth the trip, i promise.
