Description: If your life lacks something special, and your soul needs something unusual, go straight to the Erivan Restaurant on 51 The Fontanka Embankment. There, in the cool halls, you will find genuine Armenian author's cuisine and absolutely tremendous interior - where only china, crystal and table silver (all tailored) are factory-made. Everything else, from noble oak furniture to napkin holders, is hand-made by Armenian craftsmen. Fenders, stained-glass windows, and candlesticks - everything carries a particle of the Armenian mountains and the Armenian sun.

We went to Erivan without a reservation, very late for dinner time in St. Petersburg but the maitre and the staff were really nice with us. Service is great and the same I can say for the quality of food.
Even it was about 10.30 pm and the kitchen was almost to be closed they let us to choose whatever we wanted. The dinner was a delightful experience: they give us a table near the window watching the street in a quiet location (the other people in the restaurant were sitting in another room).
They bring us an appetizer eggplant cream in a spoon, really tasty.
We ordered a specialty of armenian cuisine: Aragat, it's like a meatloaf with bacon and cheese, and another meat specialty called Kyufta filled with spinach cheese and a green cream.
The waitress was attentive and really kind.
The bill a little high but not more expensive than other Saint Petersbug restaurants.

One of the great delights of traveling in Russia is the variety of ethnic restaurants from former republics of the Soviet Union. Armenian food is best experienced with a large group so that you can taste many small plates, especially the vegetarian options which are such a big part of Armenian cuisine.grilled eggplant with armenian yogurt and garlic; mountain sorrel with walnuts and garlic . Our family of four did our best to sample and we can recommend a number of wonderful dishes: khachapuri (a hot cheese tartlet of Georgian origin) -- but not to be missed; lamb shiskebab. We also appreciated the live music which consisted of some kind of a traditional Armenian wind? instrument played live and backed up -- sometimes by a soundtrack. I personally preferrred the solo performance. The music was quite haunting, and even when accompanied by the soundtrack it was never overpowering. When I go out to eat I like to be able to converse with my fellow diners, and Erivan was the perfect combination of great food, and a pleasant atmosphere. I also appreciated that when I made our reservation in person, the maitre-d' specified which table would be available to us (the only one left -- but he wanted to be sure that we understood exactly where would we would be sitting). We were pleased with the location. I also liked the fact that Erivan seems to count on only one seating per evening. Not once did we feel rushed nor observe other tables being rushed. If we lived in St. Petersburg, Erivan would be on my short-list of go-to places for either a casual meal out with a few friends or a bigger occasion.

We had an excellent meal here, prior to attending the Mariinsky Ballet. I had a lamb shank, perfectly prepared, and my wife had a excellent dish consisting of a lamb roll, stuffed with spinach, asparagus and mushrooms accompanied by a spinach puree. Our meal wouldn't have been quite so expensive if we wouldn't have started with shots of Beluga Gold vodka (very good, but expensive). This restaurant is very convenient to the Hotel Rossi - a 3 minute walk.
