Well, after suffering the cramped, dingy, conditions of London's "underground", and Paris's "dark, non-English friendly metro, it was a delight to re-visit St Petersburg'spacious, comfortable, cheap and convenient Metro again. With sparkling, very spacious stations, easily the best in Europe (rivalling Moscow), the Russians ONCE AGAIN show that they produce quality, not cramped conditions, for the passenger. With trains guaranteed every 3-4 minutes, unlike up to 12 minutes in that 2nd rate country led by Boris, you can travel around this enormous city comfortably and cheaply, today's single ticket being Rb51, about £0.65 or €0.70. What a delight... St Petersburg, Russia, you should be proud

If you nothing else go to the Metro on the red line..Mind blowing clean, top experience how do they keep it so clean?? For less than 1euro get a token and do jump off jump on for the day ..
Russian people are friendly and love to talk English as it helps them..

It's a metro - an underground railway. So what? Well, firstly, it is easy to use because the stations are convenient, large, often exquisitely ornate, and there are ample maps to show hich of the six lines goes where and at what stations they intersect. The price is fixed - one swipe of the travel card gets you from one place to the next anywhere on the system. the cost reduces with use but starts off at about 50p. Yep: 50p. The trains are frequent and extremely busy - often it is standing room only but it is safe and not in the least intimidating. Announcements are in both Russian and English - which helps. Of course there are many escalators and many steps - able bodied and steady away - you'll be fine, even if slow. Nu ladna. The trains run from early until late - I've just used the metro, trams and buses until 1am for a week. This really is how a service industry should be run!

Having experienced the metro stations in London, Paris and New York amongst others, the architecture and cleanliness of the stations has to be seen to be believed. The ceilings and pillars and statues could easily be exhibited in a museum
