We had about 1.5 hours in the museum. The architecture was amazing as well as all the treasures within it. We did guided tour through a local company called Red Tours . Elena the owner had amazing knowledge and talked us through it . The famous eggs were amazing as well . Definitely worth a visit to learn about the history and it’s past.
If you saw the Faberge eggs at the Kremlin Armoury in Moscow, you can see more of them here in St. Petersburg. I’d say this museum does a better job of displaying each egg individually so you can appreciate the beauty of each piece. Definitely opt for the audioguide, where each egg’s history and mechanisms are described in great detail (also lacking at the Armoury). The museum site itself, as well as some of the other works displayed in this museum are also worth a look.
We went as part of an organised group tour. The guide was excellent, there is so much to see in addition to the famous eggs. The paintings were worth a visit alone. Highly recommended.
The Faberge eggs are impressive romantic good craftsmanship. Museum is good for a short visit. Not anything you would miss though.
I liked that whatever is displayed, is in super condition and has a history of Royalty gifting ways.
I am not writting only about the jewells and the things of daily needs now, which are as the objects there - they are grandiose and breathtaking. I am writting about how marvellous reconstructed is the building of this museum..Dont forget to notice it..
What bling.
There was certainly some dosh around within the Tsar's family.
Such riches on display
9 Imperial eggs, and several others also, plus a dozen rooms or so of the most exquisite gold, silver and fine jewelry work you will see anywhere.
