“Lovely hotel, top-notch service”
Reviewed December 10, 2012

I highly recommend this hotel. The staff is wonderful--very professional, friendly. Breakfast is extensive and very impressive. My room was clean, with a nice big bathroom. As every other reviewer has said, the location is terrific, steps from the Hermitage and a few blocks from Nevsky Prospect with all that has to offer. As this is the holiday season they offer a series of free mini-concerts in the lobby near the large Christmas tree, with complimentary mulled wine and cookies served. A very nice touch. The nicest place I've stayed in Russia to date with no question, and this may be the nicest hotel I've stayed at in any of the former Soviet republics.

The Moika Kempinsky is very good located for exploring the city of Piter. Near to Nevsky Prospekt, shops and to the Eremitage. Personell is very professional and really friendly, they speek foreign languages. The breakfast - served in a part of the enormous and impressive hall - is excellent!!! Very rich und of high quality.
This good impression is not completely reflected by the standard rooms... They are quite nice furnished, with very good beds (mattrasses), they are clean, but truly too small for a hotel of this cathegory, with approximately 14 squaremeters and a bath with not mor than 4 squaremeters. This is not suitable for this price level.
Anyway I could recomend the Hotel.

Room Tip: ask for bigger rooms, I did'nt for one night...

Stayed for 5 nights while visiting St Petersburg.

Perhaps the biggest plus for this hotel is its convenient within-walking distance location facing Palace Square and the Winter Palace/Hermitage. It is also close to St. Isaac's Cathedral, metro stations, Nevsky Prospekt, great restaurants and the river. Yet, it is in a quite neighborhood to allow privacy and good sleep.

The hotel combines historic elegance with Kempinski luxury. It offers a welcoming ambience and very friendly service. From our suite, the views were good - a plus, given we stayed in June, the month of very long days. Every evening, the service team left a treat - a tray of chocolates to fruits. The broadband internet was free and worked flawlessly.

The breakfast buffet was served in the restaurant on the lobby floor. It offered extensive choices, all fresh and flavorful, and included Russian delicacies.

The spa and exercise room is located on the top floor, and was difficult to find the first time - as you must step out of the hotel corridor, then walk upstairs. The spa is small, average, offers a few lockers, and a friendly reception.

As with other Kempinski worldwide properties, the concierge desk was very helpful, prompt and followed up after any arrangements they made.

The biggest feature of hotel is its very convenient, private, safe, central, friendly location. Perfect for enjoying and experiencing the arts, culture and history of St Petersburg.

Room Tip: Corner rooms and suites offer good views.

Stayed at the Kempinski for 2 nights in October. It is located very close to the Hermitage, some rooms even have a Hermitage view
If you like to use the public transportation it is quite a long walk to the Metro at the Nevsky Prospekt.
But for sightseeing the location is brilliant.

We had a standard room, not very big but comfortable. The beds were a bit too hard to our taste. Could have been more comfortable.
The bathroom was very nice, quite big with a separate bathtub and shower.

Breakfast was excellent. A huge variety of food, eggs made to order, 6 kinds of honey, lots of different jams, cereals and juices. Champagne, Caviar, etc.
too much to choose from.

In all a very nice stay.

I cannot fault this hotel; we visited for four nights to celebrate my birthday. I felt welcome from the moment we arrived. Our room was a superior room, with a view over the atrium, it was comfortable, spacious, and spotless. The bed was comfortable, and we were able to choose a pillow type, which added to the feeling of being cared for.

The bathroom was delightful, and again very clean. Having the use of a bath after a long day with lots of walking was fabulous, particularly when enhanced by the offerings from the "room comfort menu", which has a choice of oils, candles and aroma sticks.

Breakfast was outstanding, with a myriad of options from caviar to blinis, along with all the usual breakfast fare.

Service was beautiful, taxis were booked without question, reservations made at restaurants for us, and the service in the bars and at breakfast was charming and efficient.

This is an expensive hotel, and the prices in the restaurants and bars reflect this, but there are a multitude of reasonably priced alternatives nearby.

The location cannot be beaten, particularly for first time visitors like ourselves, all the obvious sights are in easy walking distance, and the metro is nearby for going further afield.

Great introduction to St Peterburg.

Room Tip: Unless you can afford a suite, ask for a room overlooking the atrium,so you get some sense of natural...
