We had to stop by the Soviet Cafe, a small and cozy restaurant located on street level. I ordered a Stroganoff meal which is the best I've had in Russia so far.

Staff were friendly, and the atmosphere sets you back a few decades. It feels like you are eating dinner in someones home during the USSR area.

If you are in St. Petersburg you simply have to go here!

I was staying at Radisson Royal and the restaurant is just the next door. Waitresses are very kind and they speak English. There is a wide Menu also in English. As started I had a cold plate with 3 kind of lard, very big portion. Then I tried the Solyanka soup that was tasty and good smelling. A honey beer as drink and last but not least the famous beef Stroganoff (with mushrooms cream and mashed baked potato) very good and well presented...All for....950 rub

If you are looking for a typical russian restaurant with a welcoming atmosphere and good dishes, this is the place to be in Nevski Prospect. We ate generous traditional dishes, such as stroganoff beef, bortsh etc... and tasty desserts in a pleasant atmosphere. On top of that, the bill wasn't that much expensive, and we ate after 11 PM !
Nevertheless, this place is hard to find, there is only one little red pannel labelled "Soviet Cafe". Moreover, this is an underground restaurant. Keep your eyes open!

This place's decor is all but ordinary! It is decorated as an old Russian log cabin, even going to the bathroom feels like an adventure (in a good way!) as the theme is carried out. The restaurant was serving all the classics such as borscht, raviolis, etc and it was very reasonably priced. We went early in the day like in between lunch and diner and there was not a lot of atmosphere, but I'm sure it can get more fun at night as drinking games are even suggested on the menus.
All in all, I wanted to return the next day to this place, I liked it so much!
