Our first trip to Russia, very comfortable mid budget hotel, staff couldn't have been more welcoming. Modern room, comfortable bed, air con, located very close to major historical attractions. Excellent restuarants withing walking distance, we liked the Greek restaurant and the Christopher Columbus next door to the hotel. We would stay here again without doubt if we returned

AS other have mentioned, we were disappointed when we pulled up in the taxi to see that the entire front of the hotel was under construction. It was a bit weird when construction workers were literally walking around outside our bathroom window and nobody offered us a a bottle of champagne to make up for the incovnenience. I guess we should have complained louder.

The staff speaks very good english (some better than others). The pros... decent sized rooms and comfortable beds, umbrellas for guests to use (it rained while we were there), free internet at the computer (although only one computer means you may have to wait), free breakfast and lastly, it was super-close to the Hermitage, St Isaac's Cathedral and the river.

They arranged a taxi to pick us up and drop us off. If you are going to request this service, ask for a city taxi instead of the hotel taxi. It saved us almost 500 rubles (or £10).

Overall, the hotel is not amazing but you get all that you need with friendly service.

I agree with all the 4-star reviews. This place isn't great, but considering the price and location it's a wonderful place. The construction didn't do anything to us except make us keep the windows closed, which we would have done anyway because of normal street noises. Would come back in a heartbeat.

We (me and my wife) stayed in the Comfort hotel in August, 2009 during 5 days.

At the beginning we were disappointed to see the hotel building under construction, but hotel staff (whose English is perfect) explained that all the works stop at 6 p.m. and offer us a bocal of champagne, as compliment from the hotel. Actually I should mention that repair works really didn’t disturb us.

We booked a deluxe room, but we were up-graded to Lux (2 rooms suite), because the hotel has found out that it was our honey moon.

Our visit came in Saviour of the Apple Feast Day and all the guests were entertained with Russian apples.

A breakfast room could be a little bit larger, but a breakfast was very good (my personal recommendation – porridge and pancakes). The lady, who served breakfast has limited English, but was kind and friendly. Free of charge tea and coffee (with pastries) during a day is a great bonus.

What make me really surprised, when I asked a receptionist where to buy batteries for a camera (we lost our at home) she offered me to use the hotel camera (they specially bought a camera for tourists like me:) It was amazing!

So, I should say that our visit to St. Petersburg was unforgettable thank's in large part to the Comfort Hotel.

Pros:

Excellent location: less than 5 minutes to St. Isaac Church, 5 min to Nevsky Proskpekt and 10 min to the Hermitage;

Excellent staff the most helpful and accommodating I have found in years of travelling;

Big rooms: our suite had 2 rooms a big wc and a walk in closet (although the decoration is a bit dated);

Cons:

The look of the facade, I do understand buildings need renovation, even more so in the historic centre, but the first impression when you get out of the taxi is not great to put it mildly;

The size of the breakfast room: it's rather small, the breakfast is average;

Bit noisy if you are light sleeper

On a general note the hotel is a good choice if within a budget although please note that it has two suites : one with fire place and jacuzzi (the one on the hotel site) and another without those amenities. When confronted with this fact the manager was extremely nice and accommodating and since the other room was taken offered several discounts.

I would normally rate this a 3 but I'll give it a 4 for the incredible staff and manager!!!

PS. Brilliant Greek Tavern a few doors away and a mini market next door.

We spent 4 nights at Comfort Hotel and were expecting a basic, functional but well located small hotel. We were not expecting the charming room that was more like a little apartment, with its own hallway, high ceilings, tons of floor space, a huge bathroom and remote controlled A/C. (We had booked a Deluxe Twin room.) The staff were warm and friendly, both before and during our stay, with excellent English. The hot breakfast was very good, and the hotel also provides free cookies and snacks along with coffee and tea all the time. The location could not possibly have been any better for our first-ever trip to this magnificent city. The hotel was exactly what we wanted, small, quiet and comfortable with a good vibe. I agree w/ previous recommendations to have the hotel arrange your rides to/ from the airport, so as not to deal with taxis.

Yes the Comfort Hotel is very convenient for the major tourist sites of St Petersburg but there are downsides. The current renovation work is more than an inconvenience. Our room on the front has been sealed - bubble-wrap type stuff has been attached over the windows. So you can't see out of the windows, you can't even see if it is raining or not. Others have complained about construction dust smells. Of course this work needs doing - but there was no warning.
The rooms are tiny - our room had about 18 inches (45cms) either side of the bed and maybe 3 feet (1 metre) from the end of the bed to the wall. No cat-swinging!
The first look in the bathroom is impressive - all shiny and clean. But you quickly find out to get hot water you use the cold-water lever, and vice-versa. And our shower door was bent so it wouldn't close completely. Plus there are electrical sockets in the bathroom - a death-trap basically, there are countries where it is illegal to put power points in bathrooms.
And we are paying UK£100 a night (US$150+) which includes a relatively modest breakfast. Not a bargain.
The staff are really friendly and helpful and speak good English.
The internet works well, and WiFi is free in the rooms.
Free tea and coffee all day which is great.
And I repeat - the location cannot be bettered. But this is no 5* or 4* hotel - it isn't really even 3*. So let's get real - we would stay again, but would expect less!

Dear RedHeadPeter,

Thank you very much for choosing Comfort Hotel for your stay in St. Petersburg, Russia and your review about our hotel. I would like to comment several remarks about our hotel.
Comfort Hotel offers 18 guest rooms: Classic Double to 2-rooms Suite. All rooms have different living space, from 12 sq meters in a Standard room to 30 sq m in a Suite
I beg our sincere apologies for the inconveniences caused by repair works on our building arranged by the Government of St. Petersburg. We hope that the renovation works will be finished at the end of September.
As for the sockets in the bathroom, I would like to note, that all the sockets in the Comfort Hotel are equipped with a device which automatically cuts off electric power in the room in case water gets into the socket.
We do our best to provide our guests a comfortable, enjoyable and safe stay.
Once again we appreciate your review and would like to invite you back to Comfort Hotel during your next trip to St. Petersburg.

Best regards,
Ekaterina Kleopina
