“Great location, excelent staff!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 17, 2009

We just arrive from St. Petersburg, and we think we made a good decision staying in Comfort hotel.
Our first impression was not so good, because the building is refurbishing and there's an scaffold outside, but then you take the elevator to the desk reception and you find out a very clean area with a nice girl who tries to explain you everything in a good english, the impression was changing.
We had to wait about 30 min until our room was available, but while we were waiting for, we can take some coffe, tea, or snacks for free; and the day after we arrive we take the breakfast in the same place, you have a little buffet but with all things you need for breakfast.
The room was in the second floor, really spacious, it was so nice because you enter in a "typical russian" space. The room also was extremely clean.
The location couldn't be better, 5 min walk to St. Isaac's Cathedral, 7 min. to Nevsky Prospek and 5 min. to Hermitage. You have markets, bars, Mc Donald's, and a lot of restaurants very close this hotel.
About the price, it adjust to every budget, so we have a great hotel to stay with a very good price.. We definitly recommend this hotel!

My partner and I stayed at Comfort hotel for 3 nights. we knew that hotels in Russia were expensive and not always good quality for what you pay so we chose this hotel based on the good reviews this hotel had...
I must say that they were extremely helpful and quick with the Visa support before arrival so that is a positive point for them.
The hotel is very well located, just a few minutes walk from the main street in the city and all the most important sites.
When we arrived we were disapointed to find that the whole hotel building was covered with scatfolding and we were not previously advised about it.
The hotel is in an old renovated apartment buiding so at the first floor is the reception and cafe area. ( I believe there are a few rooms also at this floor)
Check in and chek out was hassle free and quick and the staff were very nice and spoke good English.
The rooms are very basic, a bit small and dark (this because of the scatfolding and because the furniture and the wall paper colors are also dark).
The first impression is that the deco is very old but it is not, it is actually pretty new, the thing is that they wanted to give the hotel a classical feeling and they didnt get it at all as it looks more old than classical.
Note that not all rooms have A/C so be aware of this!
Beds were ok although not the pillows they were quite unconfy.
The room had a safe box but was not working...
The bathroom was very clean and was roomy enough.
Breakfast was awful, the cafe area is small so sometimes if you come down at peak time you have to wait outside for an available table.
Food was very very very basic I can not really say more than this, I guess it is just something to put in you stomach and then you have something else somewhere else.
As I said at the begining of the review, hotels in Russia are expensive and not good value for what you pay so this is exactly an example of it.
My advise...if you have the money and you are willing to pay it go for a top hotel otherwise you still have to pay a high price but what you get it is not worth it at all.

I just want to add that I don't want to sound extremely negative about the hotel, the hotel is perfectly ok it is just that for for what you pay it is too basic for what I am used to.

We enjoyed our stay in St. Petersburg which was enhanced by the staff, location and comfort of the Comfort Hotel. Actually, upon our arrival from an overnight train from Vladimir, we were fortunate in that the guest relations personnel, Irina, greeted us. She was empathic and aware of traveler’s situations and was well acquainted with the hotel operation.

As we approached the front desk at 10:45 AM, we realized that the time of check-in was 14:00 (2 PM). Inadvertently, we had not considered this and we were meeting with our guide at 13:00 (1 PM). Fortunately for us, amidst handling a myriad of tasks, Irina recognized that the guests checking out were staying in the room we were assigned, and she quickly got the maid to clean our bathroom immediately. During that time, we were able to grab a breakfast from the small breakfast area (which by the way is open all day for tea and coffee) and then showered so that we were refreshed and ready for our guide 2 hours later.

Throughout our stay, Irina welcomed us with smiles, knew or researched answers to any of our questions – metro connections, restaurants, cleaning services, sites – and was warm and welcoming at all times. Her proficient English skills were a wonderful asset since neither my husband nor I are Russian language speakers.

Friendly efficent staff welcome you and are prepared to organise trips or offer advice. The trips to St. Catherine's Palace and Peterhof are recommended - we had two wonderful outings with our English - Speaking guide Maria. Our trip to the Kirov Ballet at Mariinjsky Theatre went without a hitch (We booked in advance) and we enjoyed the premier of the "Little Humpbacked Horse". Eating out was a pleasure the "Teplo "and "Oliva" restaurants being near and very enjoyable. A real must is the Dom Knigy bookshop and cafe on Nevsky Prospect. - nice atmosphere and good real value food.
This was all made more enjoyable and convenient by the excellent central location of the Comfort Hotel. Our room was comfortable and well appointed, including air - conditioning and free wi-fi.

We booked our stay to Comfort Hotel just because of great reviews here in Tripadvisor. And we were not disappointed! This is a friendly, inexpensive and clean hotel with an excellent location just a block from Nevsky Prospekt.

First impressions may surprise you - this hotel is not a large pompous building with doormen and great entrance halls. Instead it is located on the second floor and takes only one floor in the building. None of this matters though because rooms have nothing to be ashamed of.

There's good breakfast and coffee/tea available 24h. Free wireless internet was a great surprise.

Highly recommended. We will visit again.

The Comfort Hotel is exactly the kind of hotel I like to stay in when traveling - inexpensive, central, clean and comfortable. The furnishings in our small room were tasteful and new, and the bathroom was newly renovated and spotless, with excellent water pressure and flattering mirrors.

The staff spoke limited English, but were extremely kind to me and my young daughter. The Easter Bunny even showed up for us on Easter Sunday, leaving a chocolate bunny in our room! Other parents of young children will be happy to know that the elevator is big enough for strollers, and that there is an excellent playground about 5 minutes away in the Alexander Gardens by Admirality, near the statue of Peter on the rock.

Breakfasts were good and filled us up well for a day of sightseeing. Free tea and coffee is available all day.

The only drawback to this hotel we found - apart from the lack of reading light in the rooms - is that it is about 20 minutes from the nearest metro stop, which can get to be a drag after you've seen the main tourist attractions and want to experience a bit more of this wonderful city. Hardy travelers could probably work this out by getting familiar with the bus routes down Nevsky Prospect, but that wasn't an option for us with our baby stroller.

However, in addition to being a short walk from the Hermitage and the Neva River and a longish walk to the Mariinsky Theater, the Comfort Hotel is situated on a street with several good inexpensive dining options - the CAMCOH diner across the street, the TEPPAMAK Russian fast-food joint (ask for an English menu in both places), and for those who have had enough local food, a 24-hour McDonalds, well-populated with young Russians. For a wonderful splurge, the fancy Hotel Astoria up the street - where John Reed barricaded himself during the siege of Petrograd, and Hitler had planned to celebrate his victory over Leningrad - serves a fantastic high tea with delicious pastries and chocolate fountain. It was one of the highlights of our trip.

Everything about this hotel was great, the room was not huge, but adequate, very clean, and the location is fantastic, a 10 min walk to the Hermitage, and the Nevsky Prospect is just around the corner. Across the bridge from the Hermitage more museums, so a lot of the sights are within walking distance. the staff speak English and are extremely helpful and very nice, I feel I have made some very nice friends with some of them and would recommend this hotel without reservation.
