Found this place by accident on the way back from the Hermitage set on the Nevsky Prospek. Like most shops and restaurants you enter a small door and descend to the restaurant. The first thing we were aware of was no smoking there is a separate smokers area well away from the non smokers. . Brilliant. I tried the Seledka pod shu boi dressed herring sSalad and pancakes with red caviar red onions eggs and sour cream followed by a hearty hot flavoursome bowl of borsch soup with sour cream and black rye bread. All were totally delicious and inexpensive. My partner had pork a la Russe baked with potatoes served on a very hot iron plate. Beer included bottled honey beer dark and light beers and bud. Good selection of French Chilean and Italian wines and a port from the Ukraine. Other main courses included potatoes with pork brisket for two at 410 roubles about £8. Very good value. Chicken Kiev at £5 there a outs. They do some nice desserts including strawberry soup. Yum. If you want to while away some extra time. You can borrow cards and board games too. The restaurant also has an in house smoke shed!!
