“Great real Russian food little gem”
Reviewed October 31, 2013 via mobile

Found this place by accident on the way back from the Hermitage set on the Nevsky Prospek. Like most shops and restaurants you enter a small door and descend to the restaurant. The first thing we were aware of was no smoking there is a separate smokers area well away from the non smokers. . Brilliant. I tried the Seledka pod shu boi dressed herring sSalad and pancakes with red caviar red onions eggs and sour cream followed by a hearty hot flavoursome bowl of borsch soup with sour cream and black rye bread. All were totally delicious and inexpensive. My partner had pork a la Russe baked with potatoes served on a very hot iron plate. Beer included bottled honey beer dark and light beers and bud. Good selection of French Chilean and Italian wines and a port from the Ukraine. Other main courses included potatoes with pork brisket for two at 410 roubles about £8. Very good value. Chicken Kiev at £5 there a outs. They do some nice desserts including strawberry soup. Yum. If you want to while away some extra time. You can borrow cards and board games too. The restaurant also has an in house smoke shed!!

“very nice place for the dinner”
Reviewed October 26, 2013

Nice home-style place, reasonable prices, good local beer and quick service. Place gets busy very quickly, better to come earlier or book a table in advance. Lots of foreigners as well.

“Tasty”
Reviewed October 24, 2013

We tried Dachniki for Lunch. Not expensive, good scenery of the restaurant and even if you're underground, you don't really feel it. They do play soviet movies on their TV, and their menu is pretty rich, with very good meals. Must tries: Beef Stroganoff, Pelmeni (Russian Raviolis) and Honey-Beer. Very good.

“Nice setting, great food... and not break the bank!!”
Reviewed October 7, 2013

Traditional Russian cuisine in a summer camp (dachu) setting right on Nevsky Propekt...made for a pleasant dining experience. English menus with variable levels of English speaking staff. Must try delicious appetizers: Vareniki-- a sort of ravioli stuffed with outstanding tasting porcini mushrooms and "Pelmeni-- a spicy (not hot) stuffed dumpling. In between courses, you can play dominoes which are on all the tables. Tasty stroganoff, pleasant wait staff (commented I liked the candy that accompanied the bill and she returned with a hand full..Spasiba!! and good service with reasonable prices...definitely recommended.

“Late night russian food”
Reviewed October 4, 2013

If you have a late night craving and don’t want to end up in a tourist trap go to this restaurant right on Newski Prospect. They serve food until 1 am.
Look out for a green-framed entrance and walk downstairs. The staff is very friendly and some understand a bit English too. They serve good Russian food for very low prices. The interior is not fancy. It’s more like being at somebodies datscha with remnants from past soviet times. Rum ball was recommended as a desert and now we know why. It was a fluffy rum flavored dream of dark chocolate.
