Owner description: The horrific murder of Rasputin, the notorious "mad monk," took place in this stately palace, which offers guided tours of the scene of the crime.

Often overlooked but a great contrast to Catherines' Palace and Peterhof. Owned by a contemporary but demonstrates the difference between the royalty and the businessman. Also the Rasputin connection is of interest. Worthwhile if you can work it in.

Well, if you are a fan of tales of Rasputin, you will enjoy seeing this palace where the plot to kill him was carried out. He did not go easily, and you can see the little room where he was fed poison which didn't quite do the deed. Fascinating!

If one controls 200,000 serfs then this is what your palace can be like! The theatre is a real gem, and the appartments stunning.

Wonderful palace and did the tour with the audio guide that would cut out every now and again. Did not do the Rasputin Tour which is separate and only in Russian.

Worth a visit before you get Palaced out.

My daughter and I enjoyed this palace more than any other, probably because it was not so gigantic, and because it was the family home of an aristocratic family and gives a detailed slice of 19th Century life. We used audio guides and preceeded at our won pace. If you look at the photos on the official website beforehand, you have a good idea what the rooms look like. The main staircase is most memorable.
