Beautiful outside and you are welcomed with a huge chain at the entrance and a notice: only for prayers.

I was fortunate enough that a ceremony was underway... Do pay attention to your dress as a strict code is in effect...

We stopped by this church on our way to the Mariinsky theater, it is close by and worth the detour. The exterior of the church itself is beautiful as are its surroundings, the small park and the near-by canal. We took a look inside and were surprised by the low-ceilings and heavy gold. There were not many tourists there while we stopped by, but some sort of service going on with beautiful singing so we made sure to keep very quiet and lay low. It was interesting to see an old lady repeatedly crossing herself and bending to her knees, again and again and again, as I believe is common practice in the orthodox church. I prefer this church to the Smolni cathedral, and then St. Isak's and The Church on Spilled Blood are museums, so I was happy to get to see and actual, working church and such a beautiful one at that.

Thank stoa

It honors the navy seamen for the 150 years or more, this nice blue colored domed church with gold stars.
