Owner description: Built in the early 1800s to duplicate the Vatican's Basilica of St. Peter, this huge cathedral served as a monument to Russia's victory over Napoleon in the War of 1812 and today houses the Museum of Religion.

Impressive entrance that resembles the entrance to St Peter's in Rome and the famous columns that embrace the Cathedral square done by Bernini. Inside again was rather dark and not sure if during religious divine services it it is artificially lite.

This place is pretty neat. From the outside, it's a mini St Peters (Rome). The inside is a traditional cathedral. Would seem at home in any European city.

Beware, this is not a tourist attraction, but a functioning cathedral, so you can't take photos and women should wear a headscarf. I loved this place and went several times just to observe and feel the atmosphere. A very interesting place to spend some quiet time in.

Not what I expected at all from looking at the outside. This church was huge, and beautiful inside. I would have never imagined that from standing out on Nevsky Prospekt. I remember this church being free and would definitely take a peek inside again if I were in St. Petes. You will most likely walk by it multiple times while in the city so you might as well take a look inside. Won't cost you but 15-30 minutes and it is definitely worth it.

Located on the prominent Nevisky Prospekt is this semicricular Cathedral, the only attraction in St Petersburg without entry fee. The design of Kazan is more or less similar to St Peters of Vatican while It is debatable as to which design was emulated. Now a functional Church after the plunder and pillage of the Soviet regime, it is quite serene to walk in and around this attraction.
