“Not that spectacular”
Reviewed August 30, 2012

This is a monument to Alexander 1 who defeated Napoleon. It's a statue on an extremely tall column in the middle of the square in front of the Hermitage. Problem is, the column is so tall you can't see the statue!

“Come to see the Palace square and admire the column”
Reviewed July 24, 2012

They say that face features of the angel topping the column are modeled after features of Tzar Alexander I.

“A 20 Second Photo Op”
Reviewed July 21, 2012

This column's history is more interesting than the column itself. As travel is now common you will probably have seen 100 columns just like it around the world.

But it does make a good meeting place.

“Good vista of surrounding sights”
Reviewed April 9, 2012

The column is in the middle of Palace Square. Doing a 360, you see the Hermitage, st. Isaacs Cathedral, etc. magnificent! Also able to see the spires of the Spilt Blood Cathedral. It makes for a good landmark.
