Helvetia Deluxe Hotel
Ranked #5 of 362 Hotels in St. Petersburg
Certificate of Excellence

Jacked up prices and big crowds can leave travelers to St. Petersburg in the summer months feeling abused. Thank goodness I found this gem of hotel, which is warm, personable and welcoming. I got a reasonable deal on Expedia and that is probably why my room was tiny. But I didn't mind because what it lacked in size it made up for in style, comfort and thoughtful design. You would think the furniture was made specifically for this room, allowing for appropriate work space, storage and rest. The bathroom was well equipped too - hair dryer, good lighting, water pressure and towels. The comfortable bed and sheets made for a great 3 nights of sleep.

The hotel is about a 10 minute walk from the train station, only a problem if you have lots of luggage, but if you have a roller bag you can get there quickly. The entrance is located inside a delightful courtyard, probably a remnant of the original historic mansion from which it was created. In the wing where I stayed, the elevator stops between floors, so either you or the porter will need to drag your bags up or down a half flight of stairs.

The staff were polite and efficient, offering me a glass of champagne on arrival and coupons to their affiliated restaurants. I spoke Russian with them and had a great experience, but they seemed well equipped to communicate in other languages with guests.

The buffet style breakfast (included) was more than sufficient and varied. My only suggestion would be to opt for an espresso, Americano or cappuccino instead of a filter coffee, which was not very tasty.

Room Tip: I did not get to see the other rooms, but as I noted my small room was so well organized and comfort...

Great beds, clean rooms, a wide range of choice at breakfast
The only strange that you have to pay for the whole stay when you arrive without showing your room, maybe this is usual in Russia
However, what we got we were satisfied with everything

We liked this hotel very much. The service was excellent and the rooms were very nice. The location was OK, but a long walk to the main attractions in the city. There is a really good restaurant nearby called CAT.

Got off from night train from Mpscow, the hotel is less than 10min walking distance. Easy to locate. The hotel gets nicer as you step in to the gates, passing the beautiful little garden terrace, and into the reception.
The lady in the reception was very hospitable, very pretty smile. Arrived at 8:30ish, We had an early check in at 10am, which was impressive at such short notice. The rooms are more than I had bargained for since having such shabby small room at Hilton in Moscow. High ceiling comfy beds, spacious room. Nice compliments. All made our day checking into this hotel. GREATLY RECOMMENDED AT THIS PRICE. Infact the most impressed 4 star hotel i've stayed in.

we spent 4 days in Hotel Helvetia, st. Petersburg. It was a very pleasent journey, they hotel was very very good. The staff in the reception and in the restaurant was very kind and helpful. The room was elegant, comfortable with a/c, flat TV. The bathroom was clean and big enough. Every day they give small chocolate and weather forecast for the next day. So the overall impression was fantastic. The reastaurant which is belong to the hotel, Marius, is also good and tasty. The breakfast is wide selection. We can just recommend this 4star hotel to everybody. it situated in the center of St. Petersburg.

We stayed as a couple for 3 nights without breakfast. Very nice classic room, simple, a lot of light, very clean, with comfortable bed. Helpful and friendly stuff, and believe me it's not usual for Russia. The location is great! Everything is so close, the Nevsky prospect is 3 minutes by walk, also the Mayakovskaya nearest metro station. If you plan to walk and travel a lot and not to stuck in your room, this is the very best place I think, if you consider all the advantages together. There are always some small things in the 4 star hotels that make you feel sorry that you didn't take a 5 star because you can't really afford it, this hotel didn't give me any of these feelings. I loved staying here and I stayed in 5 star hotels that didn't have such qualities.

This is a conveniently located hotel in downtown St. Pete. The rooms are fine. If you adjust for the grade inflation, this is realistically a 3 star hotel, which means it's fine, but not anything luxurious. The staff was very friendly. Breakfast was also good but nothing over the top. If you are looking for a simple hotel for a business trip or leisurely weekend it is totally fine - just not anything memorable.

I don't remember exactly how much we paid but I recall that it wasn't great value - possibly reflective of supply - demand dynamics during the high season (white nights).
