I stayed here for 6 nights on business.

I was pleasantly surprised by this hotel in comparison to previous stays in Russia.

Location - Although this hotel is not centrally located in St. Petersburg, it is conveniently close to the airport (perhaps 5km away and a 500 Ruble taxi ride), and is less than a 10 minute walk to the nearest Metro station (Moskovskaya - a 15 minute ride to the center of the city).

Although certainly not a 4 or 5 star hotel, this hotel had everything I needed. The room was a standard hotel room size, with a very large window that opened. The TV had about 30 channels, with a few of them in English (BBC, Euro, RT, Al Jazeera). The hot water ran "hot," and the cold water ran "cold!" The air conditioning is centrally controlled so there was no chance to adjust it individually (just open or close the window!)

The attached "Paulaner Restaurant" was adequate, the front desk staff were very helpful, and there was free internet access in the lobby.

The hotel seemed to be very safe - the in room safe functioned perfectly, there was always staff around the lobby, and the surrounding neighborhood seemed safe as well. There were plenty of amenities for sale within the hotel, and there were even two well-stocked nearby stores that sold pretty much everything (usually at 1/3 the price of the hotel).

After reading some of the reviews, I was a little hesitant about the Park Inn Pulkovskaya, but stayed there because we were attending a meeting there. I was pleasantly surprised! The rooms appeared to have been fairly recently renovated. I stayed in a twin room (2 single beds). It was small, but adequate for my needs, with nightstands, desk, area for hanging clothes, etc.

The bathroom was clean and had a sink with reasonable counter space and a tub/shower. The shower was fine and I never had any shortage of hot water. However, there were no soaps or shampoos provided - and large towels, but no washcloths. Although I had read that the rooms didn't have hairdryers, my room DID have one.

There was no iron or ironing board in my room, but there was a small lounge between rooms xx79 and xx80 on my floor with iron and ironing board for shared use.

My only complaint was that the wireless internet service (400 rubles/day) did NOT work in my room. I went down to the chairs by the elevator, and sometimes downstairs to the hotel lobby where I had a good connection, though. Just a little inconvenient.

Room Tip: If you want Internet service, make that clear!!

This really isn’t a 4 star hotel. No mini bar, no room safe and limited toiletries but it’s adequate for business visitors to the city who don’t need any frills. The air con didn't seem to work during my visit o only pumped out hot air - great for the winter but not for JUne with temperatures 20C+.The hotel itself is huge and therefore impersonal but I found the staff very helpful and the location is good close to a bus stop (n7) which takes you to the centre of SP in 20 mins. The concierge ordered taxis (company is called 6000000) were good with a fixed rate agreed by the concierge in advance.

OK, you've got to take certain things in your stride in Russia... I've been coming here on-and-off for almost 20 years, so I'm not overly surprised if I sometimes encounter poor service. In fact though over two decades Russian establishments have really lifted their game.

Which means it is particularly sad to see an international group like Park Inn putting up such a very poor showing here.

I arrived to check-in at 12:00. OK, check-in is stated as being from 14:00 but international practice is such that if a hotel has a room ready, they'll check you in.

And Park Inn definitely had rooms available - but no, they insisted I'd have to pay early check-in for an extra 120 minutes in the room. Even as a member of their regular customers "CARLSON CLUB" that made no difference.

Frankly, that was just a cheek. If you want to reserve in advance to be sure you can get a room at 6am when you get off your flight, that's fine. But if you pitch up at midday and they HAVE rooms available, it is really poor to try and squeeze some extras out from one of their loyal customers!

So I go to have something to eat in their beer-hall restaurant. And here I find it is perhaps LUCKY that I had two hours to kill - because that was the speed of service. 75 minutes from sitting down to getting main course. (A bowl of pretty poor gulasch was brought prior to that). If I'd ordered something complicated perhaps an hour is a OK. But this was a plate of cabbage salad, a pretzel, and 2 Munich sausages.

And the Munich sausages which should have been served in a piping hot water were COLD.

Frankly at this stage you realise that there's no point in complaining - what are they going to do - take it away and come back in an hour?

The cabbage, I have to concede, was fine. How wrong can you get a pile of shredded cabbage though?

We paid, and left.

Finally getting into my room it's 2-star motel like - which even though it's Russia is a poor deal for EUR140. Window overlooking a noisey main road. No independent aircon. Twin bids. Cheap IKEA furniture.

I certainly won't be coming back here in a hurry!

Room Tip: Try another hotel - Novotel in the centre!

If you need a safe, clean base in a decent location for exploring St. Petersburg, then this is the ticket. If you want more than this - luxury or great service for example - then you're out of luck (although there is the option of paying extra per night and getting the 'business friendly' package). For our purposes with a small group of 17-18 year old students it was fine - the restaurant did reasonable dinners, there was a bar/disco and gym attached and we were all on the same corridor without many others around.
That said, as ever, 4* is not 4*. The shower is horrible '70s-issue, the TV is a barely functioning, flickering relic, and queues at reception can last for ever, however short they appear to be! Perhaps most annoyingly, the fire doors in the long corridors will ALWAYS give you a nasty electric shock. (Oh and there a couple of low-key prostitutes approaching any lonely looking businessman at the bar). But these are minor quibbles... in reality it was fine for our needs and will be for yours if you're not fussy.

Stayed in this hotel for 4 nights on a touring holiday St. Petersburg/Moscow. Before you go you need to obtain a Russian visa. My tour company used Asla (UK) Ltd, unfortunately there was a discrepancy between the visa obtained by Asla and my passport (which you have to send to Asla with your application) which resulted in my being held by the Russian Security Police for nearly 2 hours, they thought my documents were a forgery. I was eventually let in, but it was a terrifying experience. Asla's only comment "we fulfilled our obligation" "your entry to Russia was not denied" I would not use this company again to process any visa application. Getting back to the hotel, which is in 2 linked buildings, it was a long trek to the restaurant from our room, via corridors and a lift. Our room was at the back, but the front facing rooms have a view over the Leningrad Siege Memorial, which is well worth a visit. The rooms are adequate for a short stay, ours was clean and the bathroom fine. Food in the hotel was the usual international fare and there was a good choice, with bottled water on the table. Take this back to your room as you will need it for brushing your teeth - the tap water is not safe. There is a supermarket nearby with a good choice of snacks for a lunch on the move. There was plenty of seating in the main lobby/bar, but getting served could sometimes be a problem in the evening. There were prostitutes around the lobby/stairs to the toilets, but if you said no they left you alone.

I have been stayed at this hotel four times before and have been quite happy with the quality of the accommodation and the meal. This time I was very much unsatisfied because of hotel reconstruction. I stayed at the executive room on the 5th floor. The terrible noise was every day from 7:30-8:00 AM till 18:00 PM. It was impossible to sleep during day time at all. I would strongly recommend you to contact hotel before booking it because there was not any information about reconstruction works on hotel website. So, it is not cleare when reconstruction will be finished.
