“Not suitable for holiday.”
Reviewed September 7, 2012

The location is so far from the city, the hotel is too huge, the room is average and the furniture is quite old. This hotel caters more for the business people and conferences, hence it is not really suitable for us who came for a holiday. The breakfast selection is plenty but with such huge dining room, they need to add possibly another 2 buffet setting. If you come for a holiday to St Petersburg, please just don't bother with this hotel.

The hotel is a typical example of Soviet Monumentalist Style with huge public spaces designed to impress, but are somewhat impractical for both guests and staff. Built in a rather spartan style for the 1980 Olympics, the interior was completely refurbished by the Radisson group when they purchased the property. The hotel functions as a conference center and also caters to tour groups.

On the plus side, the rooms are generous and quiet, beds are comfy, bathrooms are functional, and there is a generous desk area. The breakfast and dinner buffets have a wide variety of offerings and the food is good.

There are a number of negatives:
While the younger staff is friendly and eager to please, any of the staff that is over 40 and came of age before the collapse of the U.S.S.R. tends to be unpleasant, dour, and in some cases openly hostile.

The charges for WiFi are excessive. The hotel administration, like any number of hotels in Western Europe, bought into Swisscom when the internet first became popular. Unlike Western Europe hotels however, the Park Inn has not cancelled the Swisscom contract and it costs a small fortune to use the internet--$6.36 (200 rubles) for one hour, $12.71 (400 rubles) for a day. Mercifully there is a MacDonald’s within a 15 minute walk that offers free internet access.

It is impossible to open the room windows more than six inches because of some sort of security bar. I couldn’t understand the logic of this since it would take the skill set of Spiderman to reach the windows from the outside.

The hotel location is not all that convenient since it is at the west end of the island. There is a market nearby, but the wide streets leading to the hotel are bounded by mostly empty huge apartment complexes.

The dining rooms (there are at least four of them) have all of the charm of a high school cafeteria. The room layout makes it difficult to move in the buffet area and tables. Some of the excess space in the oversized lobby could have been used in the dining rooms.

If you are used to little soapies, lotions, shampoo etc. in the bathroom, like a normal 4-star hotel, forget about it here. All you get are two soap dispensers--one in the shower and one next to the basin. However, there is a hair dryer.

In summary, if you are in a group and end up here, you will be fine as the hotel is definitely set up for large groups. If you are an independent traveler, you might want to look elsewhere.

This is an extremely large hotel. Consequently, there are frequent bus-loads of tourists checking in and out. All this traffic was handled rather efficiently by hotel staff and did not cause serious delays for individual guests.

There are different restaurants for breakfast. I think the restaurant you can use depends on your type of booking (price). The restaurant I could use was very nice and the food was excellent (yellow card, very back of the hotel).

Bar was nice, restaurants look good. I used one for diner and food was great.

Staff is friendly, language is sometimes a bit of a problem. Rooms are very nice.

Only drawback is that the airconditioning is non-existent. The hotel claims room have arico, but this is simply not true. There is some system to blow air, but it is not cool and far from sufficient to even circulate the air in the room. St. Petersburg was warm in July and airco was one of the reasons to choose this hotel.

If you don't like crowds and/or large hotels, if you want a working airco, this hotel is not for you. Otherwise, it is quite ok, complete and within reasonable walking distance of an underground station. I might stay here again, if it is not in summer.

Stayed with a group in the third week of Aug 2012.
After reading the reviews went with minimal expectations and was pleasantly surprised.
The property itself is huge, so reaching your room from the lobby might take some time.
Apart from this no complaints.
The common areas i.e lobby, reception and dining areas are spacious and well laid out.
Many souvenir outlets there.
Huge aquapark and a good spa in the house.
Rooms were spacious and clean and comfy.
No free drinking water or tea/coffee.
No free internet.
Breakfast spread was ok.

I spent several nights in the hotel mid July 2012. All in all the experience was favourable. The rooms are spacious, AC is just adequate, not close to the center of town, but good public transportation to get there, breakfast and dinner better than average, supermarket and the sea close by, nice lobby.

Stayed at this hotel for 3 nights in May 2012. It's a huge hotel with flash reception and ground floor but we were kept waiting for 15 minutes while the receptionist endlessly searched paper and computer! There were 12 of us in the queue.
The rooms were OK but I was amazed to see no toiletries and no mini bar - there was not even any aircon! In a hotel so modern and with warm weather in St Petersburg summer, this is unforgivable.
The Irish bar over the road is good for eating but it can be very crowded
The hotel is also a long way from the centre of town - I would not recommend it
