“Not more than 5 stars”
Reviewed June 12, 2012

Being originally form St.Petersburg I moved to Moscow some Tina ago.And have to stay in hotels when I come to native city. I was here for the wedding celebration which was done in the hotel and it was convenient to stay. I can say only positive about front desk as they were pretty helpful in changing the room with 2 single beds for the one with 1 queen size and organizing ironing. However this is not more than 3 star hotel, rather old fashioned with loads of tourist groups. Towels are small, slippers and bathrobes are not provided even though I am quite used to getting this staying in 4 star hotels in europe. Breakfast is ugly, restaurant is overcrouded, dirty, and 40 minutes before breakfast ends half of meals ( very few offered we finished). We paid over 200 $ per night - for the same amount I staid in super hotel in city center with free spa and much better rooms ( that was April 2012). Moreover I is pretty far from city center, so consider paying 15+$ for taxi it city center.

Very similar to an anonimous huge hostel and a standard old Russian hotel: long corridors with one window door every ten rooms (better not to think what happens in case of emergency...). No amenities at all (only liquid soap fixed on the wall, that you must use as shampoo as well; not even a shower cap). No minibar/fridge in the room or a complimentary small bottle of water. Upon arrival on the bed there are some business cards to advertise restaurant, or pizza or aquapark... Seaview is beautiful only if you are at the top floors. it is situated far away from the centre. At breakfast it is impossible to find a clean table. Service at the reception is not good. I was obliged to chose it because of a conference held there, but would never return.

This hotel caters almost exclusively for organised tour groups on package deals. This causes a number of problems:
1) Huge crowds wonder around sometimes in complete chaos and creating considerable noise, occupying every possible corner available (lobby, lifts, breakfast room etc). This makes it virtually impossible to walk or sit around comfortably.
2) The understaffed, undertrained and stressed out receptionists are completely overwhelmed by the number of guests and tour leaders they have to deal with. This creates a sense of laissez faire and unwillingness to help when problems are brought to their attention. No courteous, personal touch is ever to be expected, you are just part of the throng. It is not unusual to see or join a 10-12 people queue at the unattended reception desk while the concierge is having a 15 minute coffee break.
3) Package deal guests get special prices and discounts that do not apply to independent travellers. All in all the hotel is grossly overpriced considering what it can offer.
4) The price of Internet use is outragiously high (AU$10 per hour!!! Highway robbery!!!), especially considering WiFi is free in most hotels and many cafes. You really don't want to be there if you are a regular Internet user.
5) The distance from the city centre and the nearest Metro station makes it a most unattractive location to be: you need to walk for 20 minutes to the nearest Metro station, or catch a bus before you hop on the train, and you really want to avoid that at night. Choosing a more expensive but more centrally located hotel would ceratinly pay off.
6) Catering for large groups means that the breakfast buffet is varied and abundant, but of very poor quality. We found much better food in most University canteens.
On a positive note, our room was large, comfortable and clean. However, pack up you own shower cap, cotton buds, body lotion and sowing kit because none of this is provided.
We did NOT enjoy our stay in this hotel (although we loved the city) and would certainly not recommend it.

A reasonable hotel... typical corporate type of place. Rooms are fine, modern, sleek, no extra touches but perfectly acceptable and with some reasonable views. The let down though is the restaurant for breakfast/dinner if your on a tour or any package deal. If you imagine a university canteen then you have the dining experience. It can get very very busy and you need to be in twos so somebody can save your seat whilst you go to the buffet as anything is cleared away quickly and someone else will sit where you have been. I had three different seats one morning! The food is pretty dire. Breakfast the worst, cold, plain, tasteless. Dinner is not much better, they seem to repeat the same courses every other night. I wasnt expecting to be blown away by Russian food but this is not even up to canteen standards, it was luke warm and tasteless. The only good point was a nice salad bar. Drinks expensive but not quite as bad as Moscow hotels. Apart from that the hotel is fine. Location is not central, you are out on a limb and nowhere to go in the evenings apart from a very very good Irish bar just across the road, but it is small and get extremely busy as so many people have to go there!

Room Tip: Ask for a non smoking floor.

Our room was nicely furnished with a comfortable bed. Security is good as you have to show your room key to get access to the lifts. The lobby area is pleasant, although the chairs could do with being re-upholstered. We ate in the bar lounge one night and the food was very good and a reasonable price. There was lots of choice for the breakfast buffet and the quality of the food was fine. The hotel was busy during our stay but the staff appeared to cope with the large number of guests. The main disadvantage is the location. There is little of interest near the hotel and it is some distance from the centre of St Petersburg. To get into town you need to first take a taxi bus (25 roubles) then the metro. If you are confident using the public transport system, then this hotel is worth considering. There are several small souvenir shops within the hotel.

I stayed here for two nights in early April. I found it a very acceptable hotel. It's big but it never seemed overpowering. The front desk staff were good & had a smile. Breakfast was good with plenty of choice & enough sitting places. I never ate dinner in the hotel but went to the Irish pub just across the road... no problems there.

Comments about the location... if you want to walk out for a beer in the City Centre at night then it's not for you... but if you want to visit the main attractions then it is perfect! The nearest metro is about 15 mins walk & 2 stops down puts you right in the heart of St P... 10 mins from the Winter Palace. (Using the Metro is not complicated, buy a token, down the stairs & get on... there is only 1 line to choose from & only one direction to go in!)

All in all a very good hotel!

The rooms were very nice, modern, big and clean, the service was good for Russian standarts..Breakfast was so so..one of the disadvantages of staying in this hotel was its location..after about midnight, impossible to go there without a taxi..it was distant from the main attractions..you can stay there, but be ready to pay some rubles for transportation..
