Belmond Grand Hotel Europe
Ranked #8 of 361 Hotels in St. Petersburg
Certificate of Excellence

I loved the old world charm of this 5-Star hotel in the heart of St. Petersburg. The ambience is charming and the service was exceptional. From the doormen, the Bell Captain, the reception desk, the waiters & waitresses, and the spa staff -- the customer service was par excellence.

The location of this hotel is close to the main street of the city and within walking distance to many restaurants, shops, and attractions. Still, I found it very quiet and was able to sleep well (I stayed on the 6th floor).

The breakfast buffet was amazing and catered to all cultures and tastes. My dinner at Rossi restaurant, though, was less than expected from this otherwise great establishment.

Still, I highly recommend this hotel and hope you'll consider it for your trip to Russia!

It's clean, not up to date modern. There's plenty of hot water but the operator doesn't answer the phone. It's clean, but the small street it's on is clogged with traffic as at the end of the street is the bus holding area; you can't get a cab.
There are no non-tourist restaurants within a vigorous walk.
On the other hand, there is live music in every guest area and the bed was comfortable, the room quiet and clean.
The drinks are pricy and lean, but that's Russia. How are these Russians drinking so much at these prices? As the tourist area is so not obviously isolated, they must be buying their vodka in stores inaccessible to tourists.
In conclusion, it's as good as you can do here, not great but not bad so it's a 3 *.

Room Tip: I really don't see the value in visiting St Petersburg.

The hotel is beautiful and situated in the very center of St. Petersburg but it's VERY EXPENSIVE.
Among its absolute advantages/gifts are delicious buffet breakfast with many meal choices and heavenly bed which is King size and has extremely comfy mattress with superb soft duvet and pillows from Norwegian Norvegr. The mattress feels like tempur-pedic. Lying and sleeping in this bed feels like having yourself a full body spa - you are relaxing in the clouds. You wouldn't wanna leave your bed in the morning.
The interior is classical style. Rooms are very clean and room service is daily and good. There are different restaurants and bars at the hotel which are all expensive but also SO beautiful and good!
The staff is very friendly and English-speaking.
The only con I would list is that you can see some minor cracks in the wall and ceiling (I saw them in the bathroom) which tells you this hotel is a bit old. But it's really minor and shouldn't divert your attention from the hotel's beauty and elegance.

And you'll never forget their breakfast, trust me.

our room at the Grand Hotel had a lovely balcony with a view of the Church of the Spilled Blood. It is beautiful property and in a great location. The service is impeccable and borders on being a bit much in the breakfast room. The breakfast, however, is outstanding and was included in our room price. During breakfast there was a pianist playing beautiful music. Also, in the bar at night they had very nice live music as well. There is a very nice cigar bar attached to the regular bar.

Room Tip: get a room with a balcony.

Part of the charm is the history of the place, and the definite feeling that you're in a grand, old hotel. The atmosphere is fantastic -- the main restaurant with its stained glass, mosaics, and harpist presented a world-class breakfast with champagne and caviar (2000 rubles). And the decor of the lounge was certainly memorable. Love those Cuban cigars. The room (deluxe category) was nice, but long and narrow, and my companion preferred more modern accommodations. So I you like a sense of history and appreciate old hotels, this one's for you. If you prefer updated accommodations like my companion, look elsewhere.

After an extended stay in Russia, it was a delight to find myself in St Petersburg and staying at the Grand Hotel Europe. Many places in Russia from hotels to restaurants seem to employ people who march to the beat of a very different drum - where service is provided at a pace that suits rather than a pace which serves! Not so with this hotel. I enjoyed every minute of my stay - all good comments about the breakfast are true - it's sumptuous.
The hotel is elegent and the rooms are spacious and well appointed. All the staff I met were friendly and helpful. A really good note on which to end my trip.

Room Tip: A courtyard facing room is likely to be quiet - very useful during the very long summer days when yo...

My husband and I stayed at this hotel from May 14-20th in a Junior Suite (Rm. 355). Beautiful, very atmospheric room - fireplace, intricate inlaid wood floors, marble bathroom. Our room faced the street so later in the evening loud motorcycles could be heard because the weather was fabulous and the locals were understandably celebrating. We enjoyed the happy noise and it never disturbed our sleep but light sleepers might request a courtyard facing room. We enjoyed being able to open our windows on Nevsky Prospezkt and see the city come alive each morning and deduce from what the locals were wearing what we should each day.

The service was excellent in every aspect. The breakfasts were just as amazing as other reviewers have described. We ate in the Italian restaurant, Lobby Bar and Mezzanine Cafe. We enjoyed all of them.

The concierge staff were very helpful both before and during our visit. They got us great tickets to both the Mariinsky Theatre (Swan Lake) and the new Mariinsky concert theatre (Beethoven's 9th). Both performances were fabulous. My husband is very tall and they got us tickets with one seat on the aisle - much appreciated.

Very happy about our stay and hope to return.
