When you visit it is best to know the story behind the architect and how the Catedral evolved into the building that it is today.
Without a guide we would have missed the stories behind the mosaics, the architect, the restoration.
Yes, visit but get the full picture w a guide. It really moves the experience way up the scale

Yes, it was impressive and at the top you do get a great view of the city, but I found the architecture and internal presentation not to my taste. Too "heavy, dark and sombre", but it will certainly be of interest to others. I did, however, find the audio guide well scripted and provided clear insight into the art work, as well as how the cathedral was constructed.

I happened on this Cathedral at 5:00pm - wanted to see the Colonade (upstairs panoramic view of the city) and the inside (which they call the museum). Was told it was too late for both, so I chose the Colonade. Was warned it was 300 steps up, but figured I could do it, which I did - but it's not for the faint of heart! It was well worth the climb! I would do it again if I were in the area. You see the whole of St. Petersburg as you walk around the entire circle - lots of opportunity for photos. Unfortunately I came back to see the inside (musem) on a Wednesday, not knowing it was closed on Wednesdays, and I never did get to see it. From all the reviews, I will surely go inside next time!

Like everywhere in Saint Petersburg this big stony jewel laid in a beautiful garden. Before entering to this amazing church with a special beauty ,thane your picture from the building or the surrounding as far as possible or bring a wide lens camera with your self.View of Saint Petersburg from the dome of the cathedral is also worth a visit.
