A wonderful palace with an unbelievable collection of art and treasures.
If you ever get to St Petersburg, then the palace is definitely a must see visit.

Refferred to as " The Hermitage" the scale of the displays is quite overwelming and you spend days which of course no one has when they are only in a place for a short time. The gold and diamond room is the jewell in the crown and you must have a guide I cannot emphasis this enough as they will detail the history behind these magnificant pieces and will give you a greater appreciation of there importance. We had a brilliant guide. This lady's knowledge was vast and her capacity to convey details in a simple manner made the tour very pleasurable.
We only had a brief time to view the impressionist paintings which are vast in number and displayed expertly. The Hermitage is as important a museum sa any in the world and if you are a lover of fine art and jewellery you will be simply love this great experience.

Whether you are in to Art, History or Architecture - the Winter palace will definitively impress both You, Your spouse and any children you may take along. The exterior as well as the interior are so grandious, well maintained and full of details, colours and gold to impress all of you. Besides - we were suprised to see one of the most extensive art collections in the world: Van Gogh, Picasso's, Matisse, Renoir, Monet, Cezanne, Gauguin, Rodin etc.

There is no doubt this is one of the "must see" in St Petersburg.
It is quite simply magnificent. The scope of the collection has to be seen to be believed.
The lay out can be a little confusing and requires some attention to ensure you don't miss something significant.
I was there in late November so there were no queues but I can believe other users' reports of lengthy waiting times to get in as the system for payment seemed quite haphazard.
The only other piece of advice I would offer is make sure you get the audio guide, it's worth the money.

The cloak room, nil by coats allowed , lighting is poor , but some great art , head straight to the 3 rd floor , and work down, for some crowd control
