We spent about 4 1/2 hours with Mike, our bi-lingual guide, who took us by metro, bus and on foot, to a large number of sites throughout the city which took us through 3 Revolutions, ending with October 1917. Mike could not have been more informative and met every question with thoughtful answers. We felt he knew the city like the back of his hand and were thrilled to visit things it would have been hard to get to, even with a 7 day stay in the city, whether one speaks Russian or not. Mike also assisted with recommending places to eat and a couple of museums to visit later in our trip. The tour was custom-built for the family - up to 5 people can go at any one time. I would thoroughly recommend as one of the highlights of our entire visit. We also took the boat tour one evening and were able to enjoy an English speaking commentary as we explored the canals and River Neva. All very professional and a great help to non Russian speakers.

Angloturismo is the only English-speaking guided boat cruise along the canals of St Petersburg and the city portion of the Neva River. The night cruise during the "White Nights of St Petersburg" (when it gets dark at around midnight) is really something very neat to experience.

Yes, the sights are terrific with the neon lit bridges that open in different ways and the Neva River full of boats in the middle of the night, it is like a water party. The commentary on the tour is OK but on our trip the guide stopped his "guiding" half way into the trip and spent the second half standing in the front of the boat blocking the view of the first few rows of seats on that side of the boat, chatting with a couple of his friends in Russian and, to make matters worse, they were smoking and the wind was blowing the smoke into our faces.

Could have been great.

There are more than a dozen operators of boat tours but this one was recommended by SPb expert, Svetakoshka. They have a very nice website too.

At 21:00, the sun was still shining when Dmitri welcomed us onto the boat and introduced us to his city. We had met him earlier in the day at the ticket booth and were very impressed with his excellent command of English. From the Fontanka river, we saw many beautiful landmarks of SPb and Dmitri enriched the experience with historical information. The highlight of the tour was the time we spent on the Neva river, in front of the Hermitage Museum. What a beautiful city!

A previous reviewer, Astroeve, mentioned taking the 00:20 boat tour. I wish I had taken that later boat too; with the sky darker and the bridges illuminated, it must have been a real spectacle.

The Anglotourismo 'Free' Walking Tour is a great start to a few days in St. Petersberg. Galla, our guide, was happy to create a route to accommodate the majority of interests. Independent travellers with no Russian language knowledge can find it a difficult city. So the walk is a great opportumity to understand local customs, locate a supermarket and a good cheap restaurant by chatting in English with someone who knows the place. In the first days this, and the genetal orientation that you get, is invaluable. Don't waste the opportunity by talking with the other newbie tourists. Interact as much as you can with the guide who is there for your benefit, and do the right thing and tip the guide. Pick up the tour at the Anichkov Bridge (bridge with the horses) on Nevesky Prospect - meet at the Greek Tavern by the canal at 27 Nab. Reki Fontanki at 10:30am. The walk is 3 hours plus - Great value!

I found the canal and the English side of the canal to get the correct language boat for my morning tour. I found the tour very interesting, taking about an hour and a half. Showing me a side of St.Petersburg that I found so interesting. The 600 roubles was well spent
