“Wonderful food”
Reviewed April 4, 2013 via mobile

As we are slaves to Tripadvisor, we tried 4 of the top 10 restaurants in St Petersburg. This was by far our favourite for food, although some of the others were friendlier.

The highlights for us were the cream of cauliflower soup with salmon and Parmesan, and the outstanding chicken Kiev (mentioned in several other reviews).

Shame it is our last day as we would definitely have gone back to this one!

“old style expereince”
Reviewed April 1, 2013

the atmosphere has a very old style, victorian interior design?
we went at around six o'clock. there was no one there except us. so the restaurant was very quiet. the waiter gave us a bell so that we could ring him when we need him (we were in a small room). The good side about the bell is that he wouldnt have to stay in the room with only the two of us, the down side is that we felt that it was very weird, so we did not use it.

we ordered two starters (caviar salad and eggplant roll). they both have have different flavour, one very refreshing and one very heavy. we ordered two mains (chicken kiev and venison with berry sauce). the chicken kiev is well cooked, very tender and it is super tasty, my boyfriend and i absolutely loved it. I am not a berry sauce person, so the combination of the sauce with the venison wasnt my type.

but overall, we enjoyed the experience.

“Gogol was a great choice! Super quaint.”
Reviewed March 28, 2013

With limited time in the city we were very selective in our dining choices. I was surprised at how quaint the restaurant was. Upon entering, I saw to the left, the loveliest table for 4 that was almost a private area. Really cute. We sat in the room to the right resembling a den, that had a live pianist.

The menus are little novels! The staff are in period clothes. We ordered the Chicken Kiev, which was well prepared and delicious, served with slad greens on the side. The stroganoff was excellent. The chocolate torte was enough for two and was a nice accompaniment to the "Berries of the Forest home brewed vodka. The menu is full of these types of descriptions. It was really fun and delicious. A find in a town with a lot of choices!

“Good option for Russian food”
Reviewed March 17, 2013

Great staff, good English spoken, and good food. Recommended. Open early to late, and we needed a meal around 5:15 as we had an event to go to. It was quiet but sensed with small rooms it would have a good atmosphere when busy
