We organised a Baltic cruise (Celebrity Eclipse) with another couple who have not been before. We went several years ago and only had one day in St Petersburg so we knew there was a lot to pack in this time, even though were there for two days. We also knew that the trips organised by the cruise lines are overpriced and impersonal so decided to look at 'going alone'. If you look on the Internet it seems that you have to go through all sorts of visa hassle to go independently and it is easy to be put off. Don't be.
We were lucky enough to run into someone acting as a tour guide on a trip to Amstrdam who turned out to be living in St Petersburg. So we asked him to recommend someone. He put us in touch with Alexei from MaxiBalt and everything went smoothly from there. We had some idea about what we wanted to see and they had suggestions as well, so by an exchange of emails we came up with an itinerary. They emailed us a ticket which we printed out and presented at the immigration desk, so there was no problem with visas.

Alexei met us and took us to an evening show. The next day we had a minibus with driver and the fantastic Maria as our guide for the four of us. We got to go at our pace and do what we wanted to do, managing to miss the worst crowds in the process. I thoroughly recommend MaxiBalt as the bes way to see this fantastic city.

The three day shore excursion in Russia was outstanding. The staff from East West Tours was punctual, courteous, and very knowledgeable. Our first and third days were spent in St. Petersburg; our guide took us to all the tourist attractions and recommended an outstanding restaurant for lunch. She truly cared about our well being and made us feel very confortable at all times. On the second day we traveled to Moscow by high speed train; again we were treated with the utmost care and constant attention. Our guides were very informative and responsive to our requests and questions. For a truly outstanding experience, at a third of the cost of the tours offered by the cruise ships, I highly recommed East West Tours. Specifically, contact Mr. Alex Vilkevich at the agency; in addition to providing outstanding service, we were extremely impressed with the fact that he personally answers the telephone everytime you call him.

Expectations for a 2 day cruise stop in St. Petersburg, Russia? As high as they get! But the reality of visiting Russia is very confusing for a U.S. citizen. The cruise ship's solution was to take a tour with them. Their very expensive tours would put our group in a bus full of people with a guide, but U.S. citizens would not have to obtain a Russian visa. Much internet research led to the fact that, even with a visa, U.S. citizens are required to be with a licensed Russian tour guide. But, it doesn't have to be a guide associated with the cruise ship, just a licensed Russian guide. This led me to MaxiBalTours and Alexei Volkov. A series of timely and informative email exchanges led to my booking a tour for my group of 9 Spanish speaking people with Alexei's company. We were promised a private tour with a Spanish speaking guide. Everything went exactly according to schedule and far exceeded our high expectations. For much less than the cost of the cruise's tours we had two days of guided tours with guide Maria, a driver and a private (very comfortable) van. Maria is a young St. Petersburg native, a university professor of linguistics (Spanish) and history and she dazzled us with her knowledge of St. Petersburg, it's history, it's palaces and museums. We visited all of the sites advertised on MaxiBalTours site. Every thing was as agreed with Alexei in the emails prior to booking the tour. I am sure we had the best tour value of any one on our cruise ship! Just communicate with Alexei and make your reservations before you head to Russia.

Just had a wonderful day out with Irena and Alexei from Maxibalt tours in St Petersburg Russia. From the email organisation to the final drop off we were looked after exceptionally. People asked us "what did you see?" I respond "what didn't we see?" I can thoroughly recommend Maxibalt tours especially to those on cruises. Oh, and the ticket Alexei emails you is quite sufficient for the immigration authorities, you don't need a visa.

It gives me great pleasure to write this review about the excellent service provided by Alexei Volkov of Maxibalt Tours. After a very helpful exchange of emails with Alexei , my cousin and I booked a 2 day tour of St Petersburg. We were met by Alexei and our tour guide Kristina at the dockside and were whisked off by our amazing driver who magically was always there waiting for us throughout the 2 days. Kristina,a University History Graduate, was a charming lady. Her knowledge was outstanding and command of the English Language superb. She was a joy to be with and a bonus was that her planning meant that we never had to queue anywhere! Our 2 day tour of St Petersburg was the highlight of our cruise on the Celebrity Eclipse and I want to thank Alexei and his team for the personal and efficient attention given to us.
