We had no trouble arrangng our "White Nights" private tour from the UK. And initially they wanted to give us a standard tour; we negotiated a more suitable itinaray for us.
WN are quite a slick and professional outfit; both driver and guide were helpful. We went all around St Petersburg with them. It was not all fun though and at times it was a bit hard work to drum up some enthusiasum for some minor royals palace.
I had previously asked that this was to be a bit of a low key look around ( i had already rejected going around the Hermitage , simply due to the pressure of number of people that would inevitably be there). So maybe i should have really have spelt this out.
Nothing wrong with either the tour, or the guide- just we did not want an intensive must see everything experience.

We recently visited st. Petersburg,Russia and booked tours through Alla Tours. It was a great tour company and was much less expensive than the cruise ship tours . We had a day in Tallin, Estonia, two days in st. Petersburg , a day in Helsinki and a day in Stockholm for about $480 for each of the 3 of us. In st. Petersburg we visited the Hermitage Museum and took a boat trip around the canals. We visited the church of the spilled blood and also the Church of Peter and Paul Fortress where the tzars are buried.

We then took a hydrofoil ride to catherine the Great's palace, peterhof and tsarskoye Selo the summer home of Nicholas ki and Alexandra. All admissions and boat trips were included, with this tour as well you didn't need to get a Russian visa as the tour guide had one for the group. You don't pay for the tour until the second day in st Petersburg.

The places that we visited were amazing. Many were decorated with gold leaf and inlaid parkway floors with intricate designs.

We sailed on the Norwegian Star and stopped at all of the ports wihich had been centers of the Hanseatic League in the 16th century. It was a trip of a lifetime to tour the Baltic Sea.

The guides were local but all spoke excellent English.

It was truly a special lifetime experience and being on the ship for most meals avoided the expensive Scandinavian prices. In Copenhagen get the 24 hour bus pass and I would also recommend the canal tour from nyhavn

Enjoy

Our two days in St Petersburg were not enough to see & do everything. Alla Tours do a wonderful job show casing the best the city has to offer. The hydrofoil trip to Peterhof was a great way to see another side of the city. The gardens, waterfalls & fountains are beautiful. From there we drove to Catherine's Palace. For shear beauty it is hard to explain the interior of this Palace, the Amber Room is stunning. St Petersburg has been on my bucket list for a long time, but I was thinking more about the Hermitage. It is better known because more is writing about it. But after seeing Catherine's Palace I think it is the more beautiful of the two. This is not to take anything away from the Yusupov Palace, St Isaac's Cathedral, Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood or Peter & Paul Fortress. It truly was a wonderful and interesting two days not to be missed.

We have just returned from a 2 week Baltic Cruise. The ship excursions are expensive so the 2 days spent in St Petersburg would be expensive if you want to do most of the attractions. So after looking on Trip Adviser we booked with Alla Tours and I whole heartly recommend them.We had a wonderful 2 days and saw all the major sights and were so impressed. The trip down the River was amazing . We chose the Comfort Tour as it is a very busy 2days. I was concerned about the Hermitage Visit as I suffer with my back but there were chairs to sit on in most rooms and corridors which helps. If you are looking for Russian Dolls for gifts for children the cheapest place to buy I found was the stalls when you get through Russian Customs which is an easy process providing you have the correct docs which are Tour Tickets. Passport and an Immigration form which is given to All passengers on a cruise as I was .You may be told you have to book with the Ships Tours You Do Not. Not long after the the ship was cleared we made our way to the gangway ahead of the ships Tours going and were off and away very quickly. There was 16 of us all from the ship and we had a comfortable mini bus a great English speaking guide a lovely young lady. So be confident you will save money and have ago and book with the tour companys in the country were you are. I had never done before but I will do again

The two days excursion in Saint Petersburg with Maxibalt Tours has pleased us very well.
The friendly russian driver and the nice young female russian guide, who spoke very well english,
showed us these two days most of the important sightseeings in St.Petersburg as the Hermitage, the Peterhof, the Rasputinhouse and many other things.
The group doesn't exsist of many people, maximum up to 16 persons, and so we did not have to wait very long for the attractions. Included was a visit to the underground and also enjoyable was the boattrip on the canals. Also included these two days was the excellent russian lunch.
We look back at two marvelous days and therefore we can recommend highly the Maxibalt tours
in St.Petersburg. Thanks to you Alexei and greetings from Holland.
