“Most convenient place to stay in St Petersburg!”
Reviewed September 29, 2012

This mini-hotel is exactly that: do not expect a grand foyer and 100+ rooms. This place is small, located on the fifth floor of an unassuming building. It has less than 10 rooms. You can easily miss it. But don't -- this place is perfect for anyone looking to spend some time sight-seeing in St Petersburg.

Conveniently located right next to the new Admiralty metro station (on the purple line, 27 rubles to anywhere in the city!), this hotel is right near the beginning of the Nevsky Prospect, and within five minutes walk to the Hermitage. There are trolleybuses passing by every few minutes. As far as transport and convenience goes (getting to the airport, going to all the must-sees in the city), you probably couldn't go better than Acme on Malaya Morskaya.

There is always one person manning the reception, 24 hours a day. Most of the girls there spoke excellent English, others were a little shy, but we heard travellers from other countries speaking broken languages to the staff there, and they all worked it out. The girls made every effort to accommodate our needs.

We stayed in room 2. It was furnished simply. The bathroom was bright and warm. The bed was a little on the hard/too springy side, but you can't help that. It doesn't market itself as a 5-star hotel, and as such, you shouldn't expect a 5-star bed. The only thing I could complain about is the mosquitoes that invaded our room, which we weren't expecting. This is a problem with St Petersburg, though, being built on swampland, so just be sure to bring something to deter the insects if you're going to have your window open.

Water was hot and constant. Breakfast was simple, but free and prompt. Elevator is tiny, only enough for two people, or one person and a suitcase. Some people have complained about it -- but we loved this feature of the building.

Lots of nice cafes and restaurants nearby. If you're using your room as a hub for when you're tired of sight-seeing -- stay here. If you want luxury in a proud and luxurious city -- be prepared to pay extra and stay elsewhere.

We loved Acme on Malaya Morskaya, and will definitely stay there again next time we're in the country.

We reserved two family rooms and were apalled to know that this hotel is just rooms that someone bought in an old building and threw in a bed, a futon and a dresser! The building has a weird smell, and the odor of sewage in the bathroom was nauseating. The maid scrubbed the bathroom with bleach the day before we left, but we could still pick up faint traces of sewage.

Breakfast was okay, and did fill us up. So no complaints. You can specify your choices and the time, it is delivered promptly to your room. Room are large, but very bare and look old. The windows faced the busy Malaya Morskaya street and we were unfortunate to be there while the roads were being dug. But I can't blame the hotel for that.

The elevator is extremely tiny, and can take in only one person and one bag, so be prepared to make multiple trips to your room while checking in and out. The girls at the reception (on the 5th floor) were helpful.

Overall, I would give this hotel a thumbs down for the price it charged (approx $240) and the service/amentities it offered. The location is convenient, but you might be better off paying a little more and getting your money's worth.

I readed some reviews about the place calling it average, but the rooms looked so nice, so well furnished and decorated, that I decided to try and was a real nice surprise. Yes, the hotel stays in just one building floor, but I think this is a advantage: the place is very quiet and isolated, far from street's noise. The staff is excelent, very profissional, british in their punctuality: they ask to you which time do you prefer you breakfast and delivered it to your room! Amazing! I loved it. You can choose the meals from a menu and for us was a very generous portions. You also have a small fridge inside the bedroom, and a place to get water, coffe and tea anytime you want. The bathroom is very nice, clean, hot water all the time, always with soap, higienic paper and nice soft towels. We had cable TV, free wifi internet (good speed for me), and I must to take a note about Ielena, the day recepcionist: she was really nice and gave us a lot of help with phone calls, in order to arrange transportation. A impecable service, worth the price till the last cent. The location is fantastic, really close to Hermitage and other major sites. I recommended to all.

Room Tip: I think all rooms are nice

Excellent location right in the heart of the city- about 2 minutes from Dvortsovaya Ploschad and the Hermitage. As with many Russian buildings, the entrance is unassuming and looks as though it could do with a bit of TLC. This is common to almost every property, unless you want to start paying to stay at the Nevsky Palace, Astoria etc.

The room itself was cleaned every day and the desk staff were accomodating and friendly. Breakfast was nice on the days I had it and there was a good choice of things to eat.

I paid 2500 Rur per night for a double room and was wholly satisfied. Given the going rates for accomodation within the city, I suggest that you will be hard pressed to find better lodgings at this price. It is not, and indeed does not advertise itself as being a luxury property- to complain that it isn't up to scratch misses the point somewhat. If you want better, move down the road to the Astoria and pay accordingly!

Good honest accomodation at a good price, will definitely return.

I really didn't have a good experience with this place even though its location is really great. Maybe if I knew what I should be expecting (i.e. not a real hotel) I would have been prepared for what I have experienced and it wouldn't leave such a bad impression.

So for the next potential travellers to St. Petersburg please be aware of the following when choosing this hotel and if you decide that you can perfectly cope with this and what you really care about is only the location then go for it.

- first of all this is not a real hotel but effectively only one hallway on a 5th floor of an apartment building and should be advertised as such (with all the inconvenience of having to ring the bell and wait for them to remotly open the door when you want to enter the bulding and with an incredibly tiny and shabby elevator)
- they are serving breakfast while having absolutely no facilities for it (no dining room at all and the "kitchen" is just a few cupboards and a sink in the reception room), they should stop serving breakfast all together
- the same (one) person that works at the reception is also preparing the breakfast, i.e. completely understaffed which is not acceptable for a place that is being advertised as 3-star
- we were in a room for three people where the third bed was an army-type foldable metal frame covered by a thin mattress, again not acceptable for a 3-star standard, they should stop offering three-bed rooms
- the last day we were in the hotel there was no hot water at all and when asked about this at the reception they just said that it is an old building so the boiler does break down and nothing was fixed by the time we left

Dear Guest,
Thank you for taking time and writting the feedback!
We're sorry to learn that your stay was not as expected. We will provide some explanations.

Hotel Acme is a mini-hotel located in the historical building in the very city center. The hotel is situated on the 5th floor, and as many mini-hotels in St.Petersburg it neither occupies a separate building nor has a separate entrance. As well as an elevator was placed in the building corresponding the age of construction, therefore its size is not comparable with modern elevators. Nevertheless we are glad to offer comfortable accommodation in the very center just in few steps away from the Hermitage for the reasonable rate in the building with history.

Concering breakfast we would like to point out the type of the hotel. The hotel has only 10 rooms and therefore the hotel doesn't have a cook for preparing breakfast. Breakfast is usually prepared by a maid sometimes with some help of the administrator. Breakfast in mini-hotel contains most of ingredients packed in individual packages.

All the rooms in the hotel are double and only for our guest's comfort we are providing an extra bed for triple accommodation. The third bed is an extra bed conformed to standard extra bed in hotels.

Concerning the lack of hot water I would like to say sorry for the inconveniences you had. This problem is not usually happening, but the problem may happen to be at any hotel, building, place.

We apologize if the hotel facilities didn't meet your demands and again, thank you for your comments - each opinion is highly important for us.

We booked a car through the hotel to pick us up at the train station but it never arrived, even though we rang the day before to double check. Rang the hotel and they sent a staff member around to pick us up in the pouring rain and they were very apologetic. It's location is perfect, you can walk to just about all the sights and right across the road is a 24 hour convenience store. The room had aircon and a minibar. The mattress was way too soft and the curtains don't keep the light out which makes it hard to sleep during "white nights" so bring eye masks if visiting in summer. The staff were very helpful booking tours and suggesting restaurants. We had no problems with the breakfast as we supplemented it with our own muesli. A comfortable, great value but not luxury hotel.

All hotels are extremely expensive in St. Petersburg and they do not deserve it. This hotel is expensive €85 per night for what it offers. May be you pay for the location which is great. Rooms are average (only 6) and the breakfast is minimal. The receptionists are great and eager to help you. The hotel is located on the 5th floor of a building with a lift from the years of Pater’s the Great.
