I was a little concerned after reading some negative reviews on The Skye Hotel , but you get what you pay for and we were pleasantly surprised . Yes the rooms are small, but cosy ( ours came with shower ), and yes the entrance does not shout 5 star , because it is not , and yes you have to walk 50 meters up the street for breakfast and it was simple but it was quality and more than sufficient . What the Skye does provide is clean , safe , affordable accomodation in the middle of St Petersburg , a stones throw from shops , restaurants and some world standard sights such as the Hermitage . My wife and I could not have asked for more and would stay again should we come this way . English speaking staff was also a bonus .

Nice tiny rooms, excellent service, free wifi, accepts AmEx. 5 minutes from Nevsky. But smells... I hope they'll solve this problem.

I wrote about the experience at length at http://mysite.verizon.net/vze2hxrw/

I prepaid for six nights, but the voucher was rejected by the hotel.

Apparently the travel company 1800hotels had fallen behind on its payments to hotels. (It has since gone bankrupt but still operates.)

I ended up paying twice. But the hotel insisted I pay an extra $127.82 to them the second time.

I didn't seem to have any other options, so I paid. And 1800hotels won't reimburse me for the first payment. They say I have to file with the bankruptcy courts in FL.

Dear Guest,
We are very sorry about your unfortunate experience, but we do not have any relationship with 1800hotels and therefore cannot accept their vouchers.
Apart from the above I hope your experience with us was not altogether bad. I see that you liked hotel's location, as well as cleanliness and sleep quality. There are hundreds of companies which you can safely book accommodation at our hotels with, and you can always book your stay on one of our websites. I am sure that once your mind is not clouded with thoughts about the company which let you down, you will see everything around you with absolutely different eyes.
Please feel free to contact us at any time. We shall be happy to welcome you back and will do everything within our power to make you feel comfortable and enjoy your stay with us.

With kind regards,

The entrance to the Sky Hotel has to be the most frightening welcome to an hotel I have ever experienced...once you actually find the place (which is no mean feat) you have to cross a darkened back yard, enter into a back passage of a building with broken windows and broken floor tiles...you enter a lift and up you go to the 6 th floor..once in the hotel you soon realise its a little bit like a hostel..our room was small, no air con or any kind of fan so we boiled...the walls in the room had seen better days, they were marked and dirty and need painting..we had shared facilities, something i have never experienced before and never hope to again..im too old for it..the bathroom/toilet had a strong odour of sewage but it was clean enough considering its communal...all in all, if you dont mind the "Addams family" style entrance then this hotel is good value for folk on a tight budget...
