All of the animals we saw appeared very well cared for, having said that some of the enclosures were old fashioned, it was like going to a zoo in the 1960's. The primates are homed in lovely new enclosures with plenty of room to exercise but other animals such as the big cats and an elephant were in much smaller enclosures. There is old bear pit at the entrance of the zoo that now houses racoons, one of the larger cages in the Zoo has a sign saying that it is a bear enclosure built with donations from the the readers of the Sunday Times, but thee were no bears just South American Tapirs. There are plenty of places to grab a snack in the Zoo and a myriad of souvenir sellers. If you want to avoid the crowds, it can a popular destination, go when it opens at 09:00 and you should have the place to yourself.
