Located in a former German insurance company, the building is different. Ideally located for downtown and zoo. Good breakfast with a lot of variety . Single rooms have some of the smallest beds imaginable

The hotel is located in the former insurance building that makes for rather eclectic combination, with high ceilings and decorative staircase mixed with old carpets throughout. It is about 10 minutes walk from the Victory Square and all the shops and restaurants around it.

A lot in here harks back to the old Soviet days. Unappealing corridors, cheap furniture, CRT TV sets and the narrow, dormitory-style beds all evoke the not-too-distant past.

Bedrooms have ample wardrobe space, there is no safe box but water is provided. Easy to operate and convenient light switches.

The bathrooms appear to suffer from drainage problems but otherwise the water pressure in the shower was good.

Breakfast had a good selection of hot and cold dishes regularly replenished although after three days’ stay it became a little monotonous as the offering was not changed. Very little fruit.

Staff quite friendly and even smiling on occasions and happy to offer advice about the city.

But all this, from flimsy curtains and bland décor to blocked fire exits makes for authentic experience in this unusual exclave. Especially if you are fed up with nondescript and dull western-style chain hotels.

Room tip: Away from the main street

We got a room on the top floor, everything was nice and clen, staff was friendly an helpful. Our room was very quiet, no traffic nose at all (room had windows to a side street). Breakfast was very good.

Fun fact: The building used to house an insurance company based in Berlin. You'll find a "Berlin Bear" on the front of the building (Top Left if You stand in the front of th building)

Room tip: Rooms on theeast and west side are quiet. I guess the rooms facing Mira Prospekt will have som traffic noise.

The hotel holds a fascinating amount of history as it wasn't built to be used this way, as it was actually an office built built by the German government in the thirty's. It is very solid and the rooms are quite which is great considering it's location is on a busy road opposite the city zoo. We didn't eat in the hotel, but breakfast was plentiful and varied.

Old-fashioned hotel with interesting architecture. Staff friendly but only some with second language. Rooms comfortable (we had a large bath as well as shower). Breakfast good but restaurant not very special for meal.
