“A Great Hotel in a Great Location!”
Reviewed April 9, 2014

I just completed my 3rd visit to Arkhangelsk staying at the Pur Navolok and I look forward to returning! The hotel is very nice with all the facilities that a business traveler or tourist requires. The staff are extremely helpful and professional! The location cannot be beat especially if you secure a room facing the river! I highly recomend this hotel!

Room Tip: Ask for a river view! WOW!

I stayed there for two nights, and I took one of the central tower rooms. It was late March and the Dvina was still frozen. I walked across the rive (approx 2.5km) and back each morning.
Archangelsk is a very flat city and has a number of shipyards around it. The river front is a well thought out esplanade, and it is easy to walk along, or into the city.
I ate out one night, and in the hotel one night. Restaurant is OK, but not great. The best item is the view from the top of the tower and the views over the city.
Breakfast was average for Russian hotels and very crowded into a small area.
I saw one other hotel which a colleague was using, and came to the inclusion that this was the best I could have chosen.

Room Tip: Choose a central tower room/suite if you can. Views are excellent.

Stayed at this hotel while attending a conference in the city and was very satisfied with the hotel, the location and the service.
The hotel is located right at the bank of the river and I had a room overlooking the river, which was very nice. It seems to be reasonably close to key locations in the city, but my set of destinations was rather limited due to a tight schedule.
The hotel has a worn comfortable ambiance. The style is a bit dated and the interior shows wear and tear, but it works and is welcoming. Furthermore, everything was clean. The room was reasonably sized, providing sufficient working space, luggage space and closet space. The bed was fine - a bit on the hard side - but that caused no problems with sleeping. The bathroom was small but functional.
The service was very friendly and helpful at the front desk, for check-in, for check-out and for questions I had in-between. I had to leave a day earlier than planned and that was no problem at all. Needless to say, I expected to pay for the night for which I had committed, but they only charged a partial fee for a late checkout and not the whole night.
The breakfast was fine, offering a good range of selections, both international and Russian. The only complaint I had was that the coffee was awful, but that unfortunately is the case in many places.

I stayed two weeks at the Pur-Navolok whilst on business in the area. After reading some of the previous comments I was mentally steeling myself for another drab concrete monstrosity. However, I was pleasantly surprised to arrive to a huge hotel, that was quiet, comfortable and well equipped.

I had minimal interaction with the staff, but they were efficient and friendly.

The room was very spacious and had a nice view of the river - although due to the time of year this is not the best for trying to sleep due to the 24 hour light.

The only disappointment was the breakfast area. How such a vast hotel utilises such a small room area for breakfast was hard to understand. The breakfast itself was a small typical Russian buffet.

The gym was quite large and very well equipped. There is also a sauna and heated bath, at extra cost.

The hotel has a restaurant (Sky Bar) on the 7th floor, which offers great views of the city. The food is priced similarly to some of the better restaurants in the city.

The internet worked well during my stay.

The location is about as good as it gets, on the river by the beach, 5 minutes walk to several restaurants.

Recommended.

I know this place is a long way from anywhere and in the middle of nowhere, but this hotel for its price is rubbish. The staff insisted I pay cash in Roubles for a soap dish I accidently broke - which I didn't have - despite there being 3 of us in the party who stayed there. Really unfriendly staff - maybe no-one has told them that the Soviet Union is over... The room smelt heavily of cigarette smoke despite it being billed as a non-smoking. I would not stay here again and would advise anyone to try the alternatives

Nice and clean hotel situated on the river bank. The hotel staff is well-trained and welcoming.
Rooms are not small, equiped with working table and chairs + bed (i had a king size one but not sure about other possible options). There is a bathtube in the bathroom. Bathrobe is also provided.
Breakfast is not bad, buffet type. You should try wide range of typically Russian jams.
WiFi is free of charge, speed is enough for working.

Room Tip: You can ask for a room with river view at the reception. If they have room it is free of charge

I first met my wife in this hotel in June 2001. We went back the other night for a drink in the bar to recall our first meeting. The bar was poorly stocked; and the barman was totally disinterested to serve us and the two Norweigan professors, who were in town for their first visit. The professors had each ordered a G&T, and been charged more than 1,000 Rubles (USD33)! But they did not get either tonic or a slice of lemon. When my wife took up their case and complained to the bar man he was rather less than polite. His response was ***** you!! I then went to reception and the receptionist did not speak English. This undoubtedly is the best hotel in Arkhanglesk. My advice is don't stay here.
