Excellent breakfast.
The hotel is near the Train Station.
The location is good and it is easy to get a bus in front of the hotel to the main touristic points.
Room need some renewing to be more comfortable. Price are not good based on the room with shared bathroom.
Restaurant close early.

Room tip: Choose the room without shared bathroom. It should be better.

If you are looking for a modern facade on a Soviet hotel, this is the place for you. The rooms are Soviet in style and furniture. They have improved some of the amenities and they no longer have a woman on every floor to watch you, but you still use a real key to enter the room. The breakfast buffet is disappointing.

Totally unreliable booking service - basically impossible to get a confirmed booking.

Soviet style service (uncaring, unbothered).

Over-priced with breakfast and internet even extra.

Rooms were cold and bathroom had to be shared with another room.

I've stayed at the Hotel Kotorosl twice - once in March of 2007 and in January of 2008. I can honestly say that my expectations were exceeded. The staff, though they only speak Russian, are EXTREMELY nice and helpful. The Tram #3 just a block away from the hotel takes you right into the city center. The rooms are small and cozy. And there is always plenty of hot water. As someone else mentioned, the restaurant food is phenomenal - they bake everything fresh on premises, from brown bread to excellent soups. I absolutely recommend this hotel, but if you're looking for The Ritz, this is not it.

Having no other Russian hotels to compare this to, I have no idea if this is normal, but compared to London and the US, this place is rough. When we were there they were doing what looked like a cosmetic upgrade to the hotel entrance, but other than that, the place is old and dark. The beds are not comfortable, the sheets didn't fit, the shared bathroom (shared with one other room) was really rough (see pics), if your in a semi-private bathroom set up, the outer door doesn't lock so you have to walk from the toilet room or shower room to your room in an unlocked hallway - unless you know your roommate, then you can request a key to the outside door. It was noisy outside (there's a train yard across the street and they seem to operate late into the evening and early in the morning with the whistles and the loudspeaker). The previous poster is right about keeping the windows shut, but if you're there when the government has turned on the heat, then there is no other alternative if your hot (there is no way to turn the heat up or down or off - if the government turns it on - it is ON!). We were there volunteering and the company must have had a food service agreement on a tight budget because although the soups where quite good, the other food was lacking.
