This is a nice hotel by Russian standards and is very close to the subway. The staff were pleasant. I can honestly say that this was a boring stay - but sometimes that is good. The rooms were clean, the food was normal for HI. I would stay there again and again - because I have stayed at a few 5 star hotels in Moscow that do nto compare to this for price/value/comfort.

Spent three nights here in February as part of deal that included flights and travel round Moscow. Right from the beginning to the end the staff were courteous and friendly from the cleaner in the toilets to the receptionist on the front desk. this included trying to get tickets for the Bolshoi.

As other reviewers have said there is a group of shops in walking distance of the hotel that includes McDonalds, supermarket, coffee shop. Staff in these were also helpful and friendly. The Metro is across the road and a short ride to the town.

The large park that could be seen from our room on the 21st floor had a few events happening to celebrate the Olympics in Sochi. In Summer I think this woul be a good place for a stroll or training run.

I cannot understand the negative comments about breakfast as there is a great deal of choice from smoked salmon to fruit. Most European tastes are catered for.

My negative comments are about the cost of things in downtown Moscow. Check prices in the cafes first as we were charged £16 for 2 coffees and 1 slice of apple pie ( no cream or ice cream). The majority of the Sochi memorabilia was prohibitively expensive.

Room Tip: Better view from rooms at the front of the hotel.

Stayed here for 3 nights from 7th February. Loved it.

Rooms (1010 and 1016) very clean and far enough up (10th floor) to be away from any traffic noise etc., Could see out over Sokolniki Park into the distant suburbs. Breakfast was fine and did the job. Didn't use much else, but from what we saw it all looked good.

Staff here were very good. Left my Mac on the plane at Domodedovo (idiot!), however a phone call by reception at 4am to the airport sorted it all out and I picked it up a few hours later. Brilliant service and well done to the night team on the 7th/8th Feb. I hope the management read this and pass on my thanks.

Great location next to the Sokolniki metro stop. Half a dozen stops and you are by Red Square, Kremlin, GUM store and all that. Once you get your head around the cyrillic names it is pretty easy to figure the metro maps. Supermarket across the road. McDonalds nearby if you're desperate.

All in all a good stay. Great city. Made even better by the exceptional service from the staff to recover my Mac and uni work.

TRAVEL TIP - from Domodedovo, take the aeroexpress from the airport. It's about 350 rubbles each and takes about 45 mins. You'll arrive at Paveletskaya where you jump on the 5 line for a couple stops, change at Komsomolskaya and then take the 2 line for a few more to Sokolniki. Whole journey takes about 90 mins.

Have a wander around Komsomolskaya station too - one of the best metro stops to photograph. Pop outside as well and visit Yaraslavski rail station - where the trans Siberian starts!

Lastly, visit the Kremlin Armoury. Stunning exhibits and amazing to walk around inside the Kremlin Walls. Red Square and St.Basils Cathedral a must, as is the Christ Saviour (where Pussy Riot did their thing!). Don't bother with the Lenin mausoleum. Just weird.

Enjoy your visit...

an excellent choice - this hotel is perfect for a stay in Moscow. It is easy to find - we flew into Domededovo, and took the Aeroexpress (the station is immediately adjacent to the main exit - go to the left) to Paveletskaya, and then the metro up to the red line. The whole place was spotless and the bed was very comfortable. Service is very good too, and the reception staff are helpful and speak English. The hotel is oppostie a Metro Station, (Sokolniki - on the red line) and is about 10 mins from all the major attractions of Red Square and Kremlin (no need to change lines). Breakfast caters for all tastes and is good quality too. After checkout, we left our luggage in their secure store, to collect later, as our flight was late evening. This was great as we were able to spend that day around the city too. Can't rate the spa as we didn't use it - too much else to do!

Having no wish to repeat what others have written about this hotel, it is in a fine location opposite the Metro, restaurants nearby and friendly, helpful staff. The hotel is modern and clean and there is an excellent choice for breakfast. The bar is very good with happy hour running for 9 hours! Now that's one happy hour..although the drinks are expensive, but so is Moscow as a whole. My only niggle is that the rooms are very warm and it's impossible to alter this save for opening the window and then you get the traffic noise, or at least I did as my room was at the front. No complaints from me...Stay here and you won't regret it...

Room Tip: Make sure you ask for a room with an opening window AND at the back of the hotel

We have been staying in this hotel about 2 months . Since I spend most of my time in the hotel room. I have got lots of “fun” and experienced a lot :).
I will start from good things since they are few.
Good: very close to metrostation. There is supermarket in front of the hotel, the other more expensive one, just next to the hotel (Azbuka vkusa).Beside of this there is a bar in the 2nd floor. you can wait your food for ages, but their green soup is delicious and the waiters are also polite (one of exceptions of this Holidayinn Sokolniki) unlike to breakfast staff . If you dont want enjoy expensive and limited meal , you can go out , there are couple of restaurants around(expecially if you like Asian cuisine). Moreover you will find Starbucks and Mc’donalds as well.
Room is not bad, bathroom is ok. The other good thing that they dont charge for slippers anymore, as a results of looong talks and explanations:). But in some rooms , window does not open. It gets veeery dry and the room smells bad. We spent several days to find a suitable room to move . and it took my all day to pack and unpack… (good thing here, the guy , Michail, i guess from reception helped me to move).Make sure that window in your room opens , if you stay for more than 5 days. Internet depends on your location of room.
Doors not every time close properly, therefore you will know if somebody from your neighbours come/go. In this case just ask for technician to fix it, otherwise it will bother you. The walls between rooms are not good isolated .
Housekeeping : they do knock a door and immediately , in most cases, without getting your apporval will enter the room. Very few of cleaning ladies are polite, positive and smiling.
Nothing is bad if you be a little bit positive and smily. Because you are taking care of our cleaning. Thats Great!

Breakfast: Actually it is fine for first few days. But for 2 month they have not changed their breakfast menu :).Most time cheeses get dry. Cookies are not fresh every time. But there are delicious when fresh :). Guys do good omlet :). Only few of waitresses are smily and polite :) .
Even breakfast receptions also not everytime smiling. For example , if you dont like the taste of something, and you invite the guy to try the food, he will demonstrate like listening to you, but actually will ignore you, with emotion like “ Dont eat if you dont like! “ . You can not take fruits with you. Because the guy will stop you when you say “have a nice day” when you leave the breakfast, and with rude language , saying that like “Hey you should not to take any food from here!”. I really shocked. Why you are too unpolite with your clients , customers?! Why you dont try to make your customer happy instead of make them stressed , sad and unhappy?!Guys, Its very bad to start your day with feelings like this!
Sport activity : never forget to return keys. If even you did not need it and did not use the key. Otherwise , at midnight they will call to your room several times. Will ask you to bring the key, now! No tomorrow morning !, you should not ask reception and keep the key at reception . You should take the keys and give the lady individually, noone can give it instead of you. Otherwise you will be treatened by the personel of sport salon at midnight! Good thing here, after our phone call to reception, they brough fruits for us and we asked to give keys to the sport salon .
I spent enough time with personell, with manager on duty (she was polite :) , and said that will forward it responsible persons) trying to explain here in order to help Holiday Inn skoloniki to provide good service.
Holiday Inn hotels should not be like this. I was staying in Intercontinental hotels, for couple of times It was Perfect!!!
I strongly believe that, my above comments will help you to provide better service in Holiday Inn Sokolniki. At the end of the day, I hope I will not fill like , I really wasted my time,by writing my feedback. Because they did not improve their services…
Summary: But out of my experience till now as a summary i would say : If you want to enjoy with unfriendly/unpolite staff and bad service ,than its the place to stay.
To Management : Please smile sometimes , may be your smile will make others day!
Make happy your clients , be like home for your long stay clients, and believe me , then we definitely will enjoy staying and living here for a long time.

Thank you!

I found the room very comfortable and clean. Everything that I need from the Staff (keep my luggage after the check in, housekeeping, restaurant waiter, send some postcards) was easy to get, and everyone was very helpfull.

The room was big enough, with a good bathroom and an excellent view.

The location is unbelivable, just cross the street and you will find the subway, a supermaket, a drugstore and a small mall.

Room Tip: View to the street, it's fun to see the crazy traffic by night
