The Ritz-Carlton, Moscow
Ranked #7 of 326 Hotels in Moscow
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed January 21, 2014

Even with the recent opening of the Four Seasons almost just opposite, the Ritz Carlton remains my top favorite of Moscow hotels with best location on the boulevard. On the top level Bar as well as on the 11 floor Club Lounge you can have great view of Red Square, the best view among luxury hotels of Moscow that are concentrated in this area. The rooms are spacious, modern but with classical charm which I prefer to minimalist and high tech styles favored by competitors. But it is the kind of personal service that makes Ritz Carlton Moscow my favorite of Moscow among luxury brand names. Here Club Lounge serves lunch as well as breakfast, and evening snacks (that are a virtual dinner), served by waiters. At Ritz Carlton Moscow you feel as if you are in a top luxury hotel of Paris or London, with price to match.

Room Tip: Club Level services is great and includes all your meals

The room was beautiful and clean.
the location was superb, you can hardly get better in Moscow.
But the service was so rude and careless one wonders how Ritz-Carlton agreed to associate its brand name to such an unprofessional and sly organisation.
To make matter even worse, at checkout we were asked if we had used the mini-bar to which we answered "no", as we never use it. A bar-man also came in to check it when we were leaving the room to checkout so they knew. A week later our hold deposit was still not released, so I phoned to ask why, to which I was told "oh sorry, we should have cleared that already". Soon after this which we were charged 5500RUB (165USD) for a wine we never consumed. The hotel then requested we submit a dispute form. Eventually this was resolved and the money was returned with a small loss on our side due to conversion fees and no apology was given.

Another below par experience was the coffee: when a hotel charges 360RUB for an espresso ($11USD) one expects it to come from an espresso machine with freshly ground coffee beans, not from a fully automated one which tastes and looks like a cheap fast food joint or petrol station style coffee…

The spa centre was closed for our entire stay so it was hard to rate.

I'd recommend this hotel to anyone with plenty of money to waste who doesn't really care about service or quality, though the rooms and lift operator were very nice.

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights in early January 2014. We really like the location which is close to the Kremlin and all those sights plus within walking distance of many fine restaurants. The staff was efficient, professional and some of them knew our names when we approached which was nice. But, we had also stayed at the Four Seasons in St. Petersburg just prior to checking into this hotel so we made comparisons. The Ritz Carlton was just not as sincerely friendly as the staff of the Four Seasons. They are professional but without that certain "warmth" that makes the Four Seasons so special. Rooms were nice but there are certain electronic steps you must do to operate the drapes, lower lights and other room functions. These were not explained to us so we needed to have someone come up to the room and explain their functions. Not a big deal mind you but it is always the little things you note. Lastly the service seemed slow in the lobby breakfast room.

Beautiful property situated within walking distance to several key sites, stores and restaurants. Very convenient for business and pleasure. Service was excellent albeit not necessarily warm and fuzzy but very efficient and very on top of everything. Club lounge was key and extremely worth the extra expense particularly since everything in Moscow is an absolute fortune. You make out very well staying on the club level I wouldn't do it any other way.

Room Tip: Can't say enough about the club lounge. It's crazy not to stay on this level or pay the extr...

Overall we had a good experience but very inconsistent during our stay. Some staff members we came across were very friendly and helpful while others were grumpy and totally incompetent. I expect more consistency from a Ritz-Carlton, especially at this price. We had a room on the club level with an excellent view. I'd definitely recommend going for this. Unfortunately the window could use to be cleaned! The bed was very comfy and the room was spacious and well-appointed. The spa is nice and we had excellent treatments. The location is great. With the Four Seasons opening soon, I think the Ritz will have to up their game!

This place is central, can't beat it! The service is always on point I don't understand what people are complaining about. Maybe they should treat people like they want to be treated, I don't know what to say. If I ever have a problem it gets resolved ASAP , rooms are nice and staff is great. Moscow is one of the most expensive cities in the world , so you need to take that into account. I stayed there twice and each time I had a great experience . If I don't like something I'll let them know and it's done in a New York minute! Thank you RC!

For the things I read and the amount of money they charge compared to other five star hotels in Moscow I expected much, much more. Location is very good, food is not as good and service is even worse. Nothing amazing to report and nothing to excuse these prices. There are mnay other hotels in moscow and although nothing is cheap in moscow there are still much better offerings in standard and in price than this one.
