Owner description: The area to the east of the Kremlin was a traditional trading quarter. The oldest streets of Kitai-Gorod - Nikolskaya, Ilyinka, Varvarka - were known as early as the 14th century.

Crowded with newly-built or plaguely-restored/rebuilt houses...

The street is close to the Red Square. Although short, it also boasts the most churches of any street in the city that beautifully evoke the more personal side of life in medieval Moscow.
Around every corner there is an old church, although most are still busy being restored. Close to Kitay Gorod station you will find the Church of the Trinity in Nikitniki hidden between other buildings. It has been beautifully restored and we actually got to attend a short part of a service when we went for a look inside.

It isn't far from Kremlin. Walk it. It is somewhat modernized but still has it's charm.
