“Cathedral on the River”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 10, 2013

Once you get away from the crowds at Red Square you can discover more of Moscow's gems, like the Cathedral of Christ the Savior. Located a bit away from the more tourist-y sites, this beautiful cathedral is located right on the Moscow River and is definitely great to check out!

“An unexpected delight”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 26, 2013

I stumbled across Cathedral of Christ the Savior on my recent trip to Moscow. It was not on my itinerary of places to visit but found it whilst exploring the city.

The Cathedral is stunning to look at from the outside but even more of a delight once you get inside. The interior is absolutely breathtaking and the general atmosphere inside is one of quiet are and respect. Absolutely worth seeing if you get a chance.

The one and only downside is that you aren’t allowed to take photographs of the Cathedral interior. Still well worth it though, for the memories alone.

PS:- It’s worth noting that any women visiting should take some sort of head-covering with them, as it is required for entry in to the Cathedral.

“Beautiful and a must-see in Moscow!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 27, 2013

This church surprised me with how beautiful it is on the inside. The history behind the church is fascinating, and though it is lovely from the outside you need to go inside to really appreciate it entirely and quickly became one of my favorite churches in Russia. This church certainly is more strict with how to dress and you need to be conscious of your attire because you definitely don't want to miss this place!

“A newly built historic building.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 27, 2013

It was fascinating to visit what was in effect a newly built historic cathedral. The design inside and out was true to the original as far as I could tell, but rather than being faded with age everything was still gleaming. Make sure to go down to the crypt which is extensive, and if you can get up to the roof which offers great views over Moscow.

“Beautiful and Impressive”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 29, 2013

This is another attraction in Moscow that has to be on every tourist's itinerary. The cathedral is one of the most imposing and controversial building in Russia. This enormous and very expensive cathedral was consecrated in 1883 after the defeat of Napoleon. However it was singled out by the Soviet government for destruction and in 1931 was completely destroyed to make way for the proposed Palace of Soviets which was however never built.
It was only after the fall of the Soviet Union that a decision was taken to resurrect the cathedral in a $ 360 million reconstruction project. The new cathedral was completed in 2000.
The cathedra is equally beautiful inside and is worth visiting and spending time admiring the lovely art inside.
The cathedral is on the banks of the river Moskva and there is a pedestrian bridge in the front which gives one great photo ops of the cathedral as well as the river and the Moscow skyline.
