I stayed in this Hotel at the beginning of February. The reservation was made by a Russian company with which I had some meetings organized. I was travelling with a colleague and asked specifically to have a twin bedded room (that was confirmed by the Hotel).
When we arrived there was a snow storm and it took 5 hours to drive from the Airport to the Hotel (34 km!), so we arrived after midnight in the Hotel and during the check-in, just to be sure, I asked if the room was twin bedded, but the receptionist (a little bit confused) replied that the room was a double room. Beeing two men, colleagues I repeat, we asked again for a twin bedded room and the receptionist was forced to ask support to another person that was in the backoffice. This second person told me that the only possibility to have a twin bedded room was to stay in a standard room instead of the superior reserved. Being very late we accepted with the intention to clarify the following day the question (in special way the difference in price, because, the ENTIRE amount of the room was charged to my credit card 1 week prior to my arrival even if the rate was a standard rate and not an advance booking or not refundable).
Tired and disappointed we entered in a room that it is not difficult to describe as a "graveyard niche!!!". It was impossible to open the luggage (we were forced to put our luggage on the floor and open it in turn and this happened every day o our stay).
The following day I explained the situation to the company that have made the reservation and they phoned to the Hotel asking an explanation. The person who answered was the General Manager who replied that the room that was assigned was not a standard but (by miracle in just one night) a superior corresponding to the room reserved!
Because I do not like being teased, during the following days I asked to 3 different receptionists what kind of room I was staying in, and the reply was always the same,STANDARD room.
Well, I stayed in this "den of smart" for 4 nights and the situation have not changed.
I have also sent 3 times the request of the email of the General Manager to write him directly and no one have had the courtesy to reply (of course they will say that they have not received my emails).
If you intend to stay in this Hotel be sure very much in advance to not reserve a STANDARD room and pray to not have to speak with the "phantom" manager!!!

I liked this hotel - centrally located, helpful staff, nice interior, perfect breakfast(!!!), comfy rooms. In my room that was very cold but they brought a heater right away. First they gave me the room with the windows which were very far from the floor so i couldn't even see the street. But at my first request they changed it. The rooms are lovely, sound proof which is very important for me. I highly recomend this hotel!

I stayed at the Golden Apple for about 5 nights in November. The staff was reasonably friendly -- by Russian standards, almost overwhelmingly so -- and the room nice enough if fairly small for the price. The location is nice as it's an easy walk to Red Square and most central spots. The restaurant was decent although it's a quick walk to better restaurants nearby, and the bar doesn't have much atmosphere. All in all it's a cozy, comfortable base for central Moscow. Just try not to be there when a wedding party takes over the bar and lobby.

This is a great quaint hotel to stay at - the location is amazing and great rates abound on the web. The Hotel is one block away from Tverskaya - the central street in Moscow leading to the Kremlin. This hotel is not a chain, but a unique property, with very involved owners who do a great job selecting helpful and friendly staff. The buffet is pricey, but food is simply outstanding. You will find all of the delicatessen here, except maybe the caviar. Lobby bar also has fresh squeezed juices and awesome expresso on demand (for a fee). The hotel buffet is nto your only option: McDonald's is a 10 min. walk away, near Pushkinskaya square and subway station. Shokoladnitsa, a popular and reasonably priced local hot chocolate/bakery/diner chain, is very close; it is right across the street from the hotel, a bit to your right. You can see it from the hotel's entrance. Juices and snacks are available at a local store that is less than a block away. It is a bit tricky to find as it takes the first level of a residential building. Just ask for "Drakon" food store and the hotel staff will direct you. "Bakhetle" store, a bit further up from Drakon offers a typical super-makrket selection, and is only 5 minutes away.

As far as the interior decor, do not be fooled by somewhat austere furnishings. The look is manimalist, but all furnishings are of European desgin and solid quality. The bed and the matress are simply great. A standard room is intended for 2 people - there is no sofa or other options for the kids.

The service is superb and beats out any other 4-5 star hotel in the same area. WiFi is free, but requires a password to access. If any amenity is not found in the room, keep in mind the cultural differences: some amenities we are used to in the US are not considered standard; call the front desk and everything you need instantly appears.

I spent 3 nights on business here and whilst the hotel is well placed the rest does not merit 5 stars.
On arrival the receptionist did not say "good evening" or "welcome to the hotel" just: passports
no please and a bad welcome.
I checked in to my room - again no one offered to take my luggage to my room - 5 star hotel remember.
The room itself is small with an old fashioned TV and 2 single beds put together. The bathroom is tiny and is made of metal. The shower is large enough for a small person and there is no-where to place your toiletries. I put mine in the cupboard in the entrance.
I had dinner in the bar - not good and tasteless with a slow service. The breakfast was ok.
In general the hotel is well placed but I will not return in a hurry. Do not be fooled by the 5 star title because you only get 3/4 star service.

Spent 5 nights on a business trip. Plus: position, very centrally located, close to underground; excellent breakfast with hot dishes on demand; nice atmosphere at the lounge bar.
Cons: expensive, but ok it's Moscow, what can we do with it? The room, quite small with no complimentary water or fruit basket, which I would expect paying 250€/night or any 4-star hotel; no flat screen tv (ok I don't really watch tv, though...); almost no charging plugs or extremely difficult to find, only one outside the bathroom or the wall, none by the desk, bed or even inside the bathroom!! Very cheap toiletries, no cotton buds or this kind of stuff you even get from most of 3-star hotels; no cups in the bathroom (not even plastic!) and no "do not disturb" sign to hang outside the door, which can be quite annoying. Don't know if I would stay here again, definitely overrated and overpriced, clean and confortable but this lack of details is difficult to accept.

Great find in a city where price/quality are sometimes only loosely connected. Location is terrific, on walking distance from most downtown locations and 5 min from the Metro in a quite safe street. High quality Breakfast with plenty of choice, egg’s done your style on demand, and good selection of bread, fruit and even some local specialties, served in a fashionable room.
Free lowspeed WiFi (enough for mail & low bandwidth surfing). Friendly and helpful staff.
I got a great deal (3 nights for 2 paying) by booking through the hotels website.
Only reason not to give a 5 was the bed. Good mattress, but placed straight on the wooden bed what was making it a bit too hard for me. Might return when ending up in Moscow again.
