Russians are not exactly known for their spicy cuisines. That being said, the Thai people know what spice is and how to use it. While many restaurants alter their menu in Moscow to suite the Russian palate, Baan Thai has kept the original flavor and seasoning in tact (they will lower the heat a bit, if you ask ahead of time, but why would you).
We've been to this restaurant almost monthly since arriving in Russia and can honestly say it is one of our favorite in this city. The prices are a bit steep ($10 for a drink, $10-15 for soup, etc), but not exactly outrageous compared to other similar restaurants in this city.
The menu is fairly diverse and covers a wide array of Thai cuisine. It is recommended that you try the appetizers, a soup and a main course. Dessert is hit and miss, but the rest of the options are must have. If you enjoy spicy food, this is a must visit.
The restaurant is a bit shady looking from outside - but once inside, it is very clean and comfortable. I've never had an issue with unsanitary conditions at this establishment and the food is always properly cooked.
Whether you want to visit during lunch or dinner - the menu is always the same. Service is fast and reliable. The managers/owners will greet you upon arrival and ensure you are properly taken care of during your stay. They speak English and Russian, so that shouldn't be an issue. Menus are also available in English and Russian (and Thai, of course). And of course, like all restaurants I like to frequent - they accept credit card (even U.S. cards), which isn't always common in this city.
