Our experience with the Express to Moscow riverboat cruise and tours was terrific. Tour guides were knowledgeable and personable, with excellent English. We got a great overview of Moscow plus a wonderful nighttime tour of the Metro system, with some remarkably beautiful and historically interesting stations. Our cruise company was efficient and helpful. We couldn't have asked for a better introduction to the city and to Russia.

Russia is not an easy destination to visit and having the tickets in hand prior to trip to go from Moscow to St. Petersburg was a relief. Express to Russia made it easy to purchase these tickets.

Advice to tourists - plan ahead, take subways to train stations in both Moscow and St. Pete's, do not take taxis as they rip you off. Do not expect anyone to assist you either when you arrive, you are on your own. As there are many train stations in Russian cities, know your stations and closest subway to your station and hotel, Finally, bring food on the train with you, limited selection and expensive.

If you plan ahead, you will save a lot of headaches and money. Train ride was a great way to see the Russian countryside.

The “Golden Ring” does not refer to the ring exchanged during a wedding, but a collection of medieval towns fortified (somewhat unsuccessfully) to resist the pagans who invaded on horseback from Mongolia. Typical fortifications include high ramparts constructed by heaping clay over a fence made of oak, usually they rise high on the river bank, like an oversized levee-bank.

The towns all lie to the east and north of Moscow, with names such as Vladimir, Suzdal, Kostroma, Yaroslavl, Rostov and Sergeiv Posad. Express to Russia arranged for Sasha, the owner-driver of a Ford Transit, and Marina, our English-speaking guide, to meet us at the Aquamarine Hotel early in the morning. Incidentally, the Aquamarine is excellent, and only a ten minute walk along the river brings you to half-a-dozen excellent international restaurants – Italian, Japanese, Argentinian and Russian to name a few.

The “Golden Circle” is a route about 700 km long, on very good roads. We stayed overnight in four different towns, with hotels of varying quality and style. However be assured all were very clean, with abundant Russian hospitality.

Travelling at the height of the tourist season, we were amazed at the lack of tourists. We saw many weddings, and often we were joined by the couple and their photographers at the popular tourist spots – cathedrals, monasteries, fountains, statues and the most beautiful parks with spectacular vistas. Towns were always next to water, and the frozen rivers provided access for traders – and for the invading Tartar hordes – during the winter.

This is an adventure waiting to be discovered by westerners. Express to Russia arranged not only our transport and accommodation, but also breakfast, lunch and dinner yet at no time did we have to wait for service. It is a relaxing break from the hassles of St Petersburg and Moscow, and I recommend it to those with a few days to spare.

We used Express to Russia visa invitation and visa application service for our visit to Moscow. They must have missed an email, because we were on pins and needles until just days before our travel date. In the end, we got our visa and all went well, but we sure got a scare and would have appreciated a little more communication from their side.

Express to Russia gave me the best service in my trip to Moscow, the Golden Ring and St. Petersburg. All the team works fine, Dasha, Nina, Tatiana and Olga. Good drivers with comfortable and safety cars. They can offer guides in different languages, I choosed Portuguese speaking guides in Moscow and St. Petersburg. Of course they also have English-speaking guides. The guides not only show the attractions, they can tell and teach a lot about Russia culture and history.
