“Famous Shop in the famous place”
Reviewed December 1, 2013

This shop is situated on Novy Arbat Street, one of the most famous streets in Moscow.

The choice of books there is rather wide, so, probably you would find, what you want. But these books are mostly in Russian, so please, mind it, going there. If you need books in English or some other language, try Biblio-Globus, their choice there is bigger.

The bad points are that it is overcrowded, and this makes navigating there a bit more complicated (and the shop is quite big, so you need a while, or to come there several times to figure the placement of the departments).

But still, this is one of the best Moscow Bookshops with really good variety of books, and it is still worth being visited.

“Book Babylon at It's Worst”
Reviewed October 11, 2012

If book stores can be bad, so is this one. It's difficult to navigate and over-priced, shop assistants are unfriendly and incompetent - don't expect anyone to speak English.
It really surprises me, that anyone would go there voluntarily, when there are so many other, better book stores is Moscow.

“Fantastic I agree with cloggy 2000”

It's fun spending hours in here looking at the huge selection of books. Russians love to read and you can see them all on the metro reading although the electronic readers are more popular. Try and get someone to show you the antique books. Books on history abound as well as medical books which is surprising. The foreign section English, Spanish, French and German gas a good selection although be warned they are not cheap.

“Best book shop in town!”
Reviewed March 10, 2011

Moscow Dom Knigi (Московский Дом книги) has a large assortment of books, maps, sheet music, calendars, postcards, stationery and school supplies. They stock over 60,000 book titles. And lucky for us, there is a wide selection of foreign literature, textbooks for the study of Russian, European and Asian languages, and a large choice of dictionaries. They also have audio and video, 'books on tape', educational games, and business gifts. The place is HUGE, so you may want to ask someone at the information desk («информация») what you're looking for and they'll point you in the right direction. Have fun!
