“More of a shopping mall than a dept store, but a sight to see nonetheless”
Reviewed July 17, 2013

We visited GUM while strolling around Red Square. The facility is enormous, with wonderful glass ceilings stretching the full length. The 'department store' is set up more like a shopping mall, with many small stores throughout. It's a great place to stop over the use the toilet while visiting Red Square, as the facilities are clean and free.

The shops are very nice although not on the cheap side. There is also a large upscale grocery store on the ground floor, which had wonderful pastries and cakes.

While we visited, GUM had many balloons to celebrate a birthday, and also had a display of racing cars on the ground floor, which amazed our child.

“An attraction more than a shopping centre”
Reviewed July 16, 2013

We found warking around GUM a great way to spend an hour. The building was absolutely beautiful. The shops are high end designer label and expensiveso you will not find anything cheap here. Lots of Chinese turist buying the Danish ECCO shoes. It is clean, light and airy.

worth it to go inside and walk through once and appreciate the beauty of the building . . . nice ice cream cafe in the middle, for a quick morning smile.

“A dreadful experience - GUM”
Reviewed July 4, 2013

I live in Moscow. I love Red Square and the environs around it. I used to love GUM as well. The horrible "muzak" (and that designation is generous) at deafening levels has destroyed the pleasure of even 5 minutes in this once charming 19th century mall. Avoid or bring truly effective earplugs.

And remember, in summer, with no AC and a glass ceiling, it can be boiling.
