if you have the time visit the armoury. it is inexpensive and the collection of valuables dating as far back as 700 years is amazing to see and experience.

“wonderful museum”
Reviewed February 12, 2013

has just about everything one could ask for in a museum, wonderful period pieces, russian and czar history, opulent gifts from other countries, etc. etc. would be nice if they'd just let you pay a fee to take photos like other places do. you do have to shuffle around in plastic slippers to protect the floor. sometimes hard to find some that fit over winter boots.

“Loved this museum!”
Reviewed February 11, 2013

Museums typically bore me, but not this one! So many interesting things to see! We went in July and it was peak season, so make sure that you are IN LINE already when they open up the ticket sales. We just happened to be in line and got the last 2 tickets only 10 minutes after their quoted time to begin the sale. Many unhappy people behind us! The audiotour is very informative and FREE once you enter the museum. Although you can go at your own pace, if you're the last group in make sure to keep moving through the first 4 or 5 rooms on the first floor you're ushered into, because you end with the really cool stuff on the lower level... the carriages, the dresses, some famous crowns and thrones. They were already rushing us out by the time we got to the stuff we wanted to spend more time looking at and it was really a shame. Highly recommended!
