It is amazing. i wish we had seen the last before the first. It was closed before we saw our last room which was the ornate coaches and horse wear. Loved the place.

You queue and are shepherded by the audio guide but hey, you get to see some amazing exhibits of early European culture - thrones encrusted with a thousand diamonds and other precious stones as big as apricots, the east meets west nature of Russian history and the influence of the orthodox religion all in about 90 minutes. Not to miss...

You can only enter the museum at a specified time (4 a day) and can only buy tickets 30 mins before each entry time. Its worth looking on the official website before you go to plan the right timings. The museum is a little bit tired but the faberge eggs and the wedding & coronation dresses were the draw for me and lived up to their billing. Otherwise there is a lot of state silverware, which can be a bit repetitive. The crowns and carriages are good to see as well though. You have to pay extra to see the diamond collection.
