Owner description: Built by Ivan the Terrible in the 1550s, this intriguing cathedral bordering Red Square consists of nine separate chapels, each capped with its own individually shaped and colored dome.

Beautiful cathedral from the outside but I did not get to see the inside :( The cathedral was originally built in the 16th century to commemorate the Russian victory over the Polish army. Stalin wanted to destroy it but the person who was supposed to do it refused. It is beautiful based on the multicolored onion domes and beautiful architecture. It is said that Ivan the Terrible had it built and then blinded the eyes of the architect so nothing more beautiful could be built. It is amazing that in an anti-religious state this cathedral remained intact. Make sure you see it during the day and at night when it is washed in light and seems to be illuminated.

I kept skipping a trip to St. Basil's during previous trip to Moscow since the cathedral was under renovation for the past 10 years ago. Now that all of the work has been completed, I finally went inside to look around. I enjoyed the chance to visit all of the individual chapels that make up the cathedral.

The picture of Russia that everyone sees on the TV, in books etc. I doesn't let you down! Recommend not going inside, only a museum but if you like that sort of stuff then...

Its a stunning piece of Architecture. It has different chapels and Image of St. Basil who used stay without clothes.

You will also find amazing singers singing in one of the areas of Cathedral without equipment but it sound like you are listening in a theatre cause of acoustics.

It's wonderfull! To know about Saint Basilio is very interesting. It was a very important man in his time. Ivan, the terrible, respected him all life. S. Basilio lived his live without clothes. He used to use only a small blanket to cover his sex.
the best picture in Moscow.
